  • We've long had discussions on their limitations, but Farmer and DJ made me belly laugh a lot. They were so weird, such a different pairing than you'd seek to put together for a broadcast. That had its

Terrible.

When I went to college and only had the option to listen on the radio, I couldn't understand his appeal. Then it got to the point when it was annoying when he wasn't on the air because I was so used to him. This sucks.

Wow. End of an era. RIP Farmio

Had he been battling health problems?

This is awful.  I will miss hearing his voice.  Truly just an awful year so far.

Terrible news.  Rest In Peace good Sir.

I had not read anything. Last spring training (2019) he sounded really rough, but he picked it up as year went along. I remember thinking then something was wrong.

When he signed on for another year I figured he was fine.

very sad. RIP Farmio

the best call of the World Series “Sox Lead! SIX FOUR!”

Ed was part of the family. We all came to know his voice as part of the daily White Sox experience.

Wow. I knew it was serious when I saw an OG (@aboz56) come out the woodwork.

RIP Ed.

RIP Farmer. I confess was never a fan of his broadcast style, but hearing this news just drained the life out of me. He always seemed like a good guy and a member of the White Sox family. Another sad sad day, indeed.

I listen to the games on the radio a lot, he will be missed

Coincidentally Bill Melton recently had a 5 hour open heart surgery; he has now caught pneumonia, wishing a speedy recovery for old Beltin Bill

Praying for his family and friends

He certainly fulfilled a dream- a kid from the South Side of Chicago pitching for the White Sox, making an All Star game and then being a Sox broadcaster for 30 years.

He had health problems for a long time.  He had already had an organ transplant (kidney IIRC) and was a big advocate for organ donations.  He was immuno-compromised and I remember him not traveling to Toronto during one of the last outbreaks (SARS or something similar) to avoid being exposed.

RIP

Does Andy Masur take over full time?

Underrated as a broadcaster. I'll miss his voice.

Farmio: "Flowers to the mound to talk to Noesi.   Here comes Coop."

Farmio: "Here's how that conversation is gonna go:  (Coop) how's he throwing?   (Flowers)  I don't know, I haven't caught one"

RIP Ed Farmer.

"GO CRAZY!"

This one gonna go!!!!

Sox Win Sox Win!!

Theres a long one to right.....this one has a chance!!!

Terrible news.  Growing up, we didn't have cable so we listened to games.  Every night.  Ed has been part of the soundtrack of my life for nearly 30 years.  Listening to him while playing backyard ball, at the dinner table and every time I was in the car.

It won't be the same with out him.  Rest in Peace, Ed.

Turn on the fireworks!
