January 5, 20215 yr I mean is it though? Markets develop based on need + supply and demand. A good agent may make a difference in terms of knowing how and when to time a market --- aka Carlos Santana signing that deal with the Royals early knowing it was going to be his best. Or Smyly. But someone of Bauer's caliber? That market will develop regardless - just happens to be a slow market because of the uncertainties due to Covid, fans, etc. Also if there was any year for Bauer to back up his 1 year deal statements this would be it. Baseball payrolls have a chance to be wildly different in 2022 or 2023. A team should get creative and offer like a 5 year deal where 4 of the years are options haha.

Everyone expected them to tear it to the studs. And he just kinda doesn't? They just targeted players they thought their better coaching could turn around. Work on drafting and scouting better. Helps he probably has strong backing of owner, but it seems like they are just focused as a front office at learning how to do things well, and trusting that when they start really rolling they'll be able to keep finding these players they are good at maximizing the value on. I mean most exciting parts about Katz now isn't even Giolito, it's that he worked on that San Fran pitching coach staff.

Yep, though still prefer Bradley Jr. for his fielding versatility. bWAR 2017 Grossman 0.9 vs. Eaton 0.3 2018 Grossman 1.7 vs. Eaton 1.1 2019 Eaton 1.5 vs. Grossman 1.0 2020 Grossman 1.2 vs. Eaton -0.7 Grossman $10M (2 yrs) vs. Eaton $8M (1) or $15.5M (2 yrs). Jake Cave (3.0 bWAR) outperformed Eaton (1.9). The offer to Eaton was ludicrous.
January 5, 20215 yr Grossman doesn’t have the arm for RF. That’s why he has hardly ever played there.
