If you think Lynn is a total pumpkin or Dunning is a future 2 somehow, I understand hating this trade.

But Lynn looks like a workhorse 2+, and even one year of that is worth Dunning.

TBH, if 4 years from now we are saying we lost the Series because of a hole Dunning left, drafting and development will be the much bigger problem than this trade. Dunning is a fun guy to root for, but his skillset is fairly replaceable.

 

That said, I would have liked this trade a lot better if we were getting 1.5 years of Lynn 6 months ago.

I see that Sox fans aren’t allowed to point out that a trade is extremely poor long term value and only makes us marginally better next year. Got it. We are just supposed to trade a dollar for 6 years in a row as long as we get back 1.10 next year. Brilliant.

Dunning is a 26 yr old pitcher who has thrown a handful of major league innings, is years away from a 180+IP workload, coming off a recent TJ surgery... who also happens to top out in the low 90s.  He was also the 3rd toss-in piece of Rick Hahn’s masterful fleecing of the Nationals and just netted us a 200IP horse for a hard push at the title in 2021.   
 

This is not a bad trade.  I can’t believe we got that much for dunning TBH.

Lance Lynn in game 2 of a playoff series is a massive win over anyone else on the roster, even Keuchel.  So for next year.  Massive upgrade.  They need to pen him to a multiyear deal.  Because if its just for one year then we are back to trading more prospects next offseason to fill the same hole.

You don't get the outliers if you trade them away for rentals.

Also anyone who tracked Bieber saw him coming from a mile away. All he did was produce at every level. Just like Dunning.

All this talk of Bauer or Sox signing FA...what if guys just don’t want to sign here?  Just because Hahn gives an offer and in the case of Wheeler it was higher and he still didn’t sign here. We can’t make FA sign here.  Sometimes trades are your best options and they traded away a guy they view would probably be best as a 4/5 in a championship rotation.

People can say what they want. For example, you can post this despite its inaccuracies and sadly no one can make you do some research first. You get to click. The agreement, however, is we get to reply. 

Adding a legitimate workhorse ace over Dunning and his career 34 innings and inability to go 6 is a marginal upgrade for this season is the shittest of takes ive read in awhile.

It absolutely was not the point of the rebuild, and if you think that....you've been wrong this entire time and that's on you...not this front office.

7. Stiever

That free agent starter suddenly becomes pretty important with Dunning gone.  I really hope they aim higher than Quintana though.

You don’t get the guaranteed producers by never dealing away prospects expecting everyone to turn into Shane Bieber. Also there’s nothing in the advanced metrics nor in how they pitch they likens Dunning to Bieber. Completely insane take.

What a Trumpian way of spinning 26 into a bad number, a full recovery from TJ into a medical red flag, a sinkerballers typical velocity into something low, and a first round draft pick into a toss in.

Typically you can use this thing called cash to get people to play in places they would never dream of playing.  If its equal or close sure a choice might be made.  But in the end FA dollars matter.  So this is not really about FA not wanting to show up here.  Its because our ownership thinks that deferred dollars and team options late in your career are more valuable that guaranteed money and years from competing teams.  If the Royals pony up the highest amount of money by a good amount Bauer is putting on a Royals uniform and talking about how its a young exciting team and how he has always loved KC.
