Hello everyone!  I just found the board a couple of weeks ago and this is my first post.  I'm from Southern Illinois and I am primarily a St. Louis Cardinals fan, but I've always liked the White Sox a

So is this the largest free agent contract of the offseason?  I thought I saw that mentioned somewhere.

That is just bizarre.  I wonder what makes the Sox do the 4th year that way? Is there a luxury tax implication or something?

4th year is probably a burn year, uncle Jerry just didn’t want to shell out $15M all at once. Probably $5m over 3y or $1M over 15y, the new Bobby Bonilla!

They just signed a reliever for the highest AAV and people still take shots.

Awesome for the bullpen! Man that’s a big deal. If I’m reading this right, it’s basically a 4/$54M due to the buyout and option being the same price. Still a lot, but that makes it feel a little better!

that’s interesting

Ah, there it is.  Now it makes more sense.

Awesome! Now get us a starter!

Yeah, credit where credit is due, as this is the highest AAV for a closer ever, regardless of the deferred money.

Jerry hasn't set the market on anyone since Belle in '96.

I thought I saw a lot of smoke by the foodies on a Giolito extension as well. I'd imagine that would be similar in dollars to Moncada.

Now sign Bauer!! Yeah not likely but would be a hell of a capper..

Now go get Bauer.

Oh I’m not taking a shot, I just found it fascinating that they worked the “we can pay later” option in there and possibly keep the “Bobby Bonilla” plan alive

Marshall/Foster/Frye/Heuer/Bummer/Hendricks, add Crochet in September/playoffs. Name a better bullpen, go.

Holy shit. They really went 4 years.

That is a fascinating deal.  It allows the team some flexibility as they get expensive in the core.

So the rumors were pretty on point. 3 and 39 is what the Sox offered and he wanted a 4th year. The Sox got a little creative with the 4th year and got the job done.

And they can do it with Bauer also. Seriously.

Trade next?

They need some innings very badly in the rotation.

I swear one of those accounts predicted this exact contract. Which one was it?

Yep, say what you want,  but this was nailed to the penny.

I think it was Portillos.

Portillo’s I believe mentioned 3/$39M.

Hahn is the maestro of contracts!!!

3 inning eaters as starters.  One more starter.  With this much bullpen depth they seriously could have #4 and 5 go 5 and just leaving it to the pen

Add another starter like Quintana or Richards and it'll be one hell of an off-season.
