He threw a ball at some asshole fans and had to be held back from going into the stands because they were talking shit about his ex-wife and kid and this happened in his home ballpark?  What happens when some assholes do this on the road?  This is bad.

No this is not bad #dumbtake

  • Now what if it was Benetti who had to be held back, how would you feel?   Fans should be banned but Kopech needs to keep his cool and let security handle it

  • I hope the middle of the movie includes an ass whooping of the Yankees in Iowa.

Dammit, those big-spending Royals are going to swoop in and snatch another stud from the rest of us, aren’t they?

Nothing if security does their job.  You don't heckle a guy's kid.  Relax, nothing will come of this and Kopech was more than justified to get upset. He didn't Albert belle the ball either it was described on Twitter as a "hard toss".

You can also just not acknowledge the fans doing the heckling like most other professional sports players.

Real Sox fans should have just beat their ass when they wouldn’t stop. Fuck security

Or you can acknowledge people are human and that when people are hurling vile insults about your kid at you you might get a little heated.  FFS this happens in the NBA constantly and nothing ever comes of it.  Lebron was just involved in an incident the other month.  FWIW the overwhelming response on this on Twitter is to ban the fans from the stadium and that Kopech did nothing wrong.  Only here is the bed wetting occurring, go figure.

A different player I would say no big deal. But Kopech in particular has to keep his mental approach to the job clean, otherwise it can affect his career. Obviously he has life issues to deal with, and should find ways to cope better.

Not great. People are going to do this everywhere he goes. You can't throw things at fans. That'll lead to some issues.

Tbh I love this kind of fire out of the guy

Would have been good to get a gun reading on that pitch?

Reading about it now. Apparently he threw the ball at a girl?

Where are you seeing this?

It really is something. Over there, it’s universally understood that the fan was in the wrong, and here, you have all these random narratives that he threw things at a girl? It really isn’t a big deal

He flipped the ball to the fan after his bullpen session, which every reliever does after every bullpen session

I literally saw this happen. Was in LF corner so couldn’t hear anything but I saw it. He didn’t “throw” the ball at anyone. The ball was tossed. Some words were exchanged thereafter. Bullpen coaches told him to take a seat and that was that.

Kopech clearly shouldn’t be as bothered by heckling as he appeared to be but this is a non issue.

Also absolutely nothing is going to happen from this or actual reporters would be talking about it

Ah, a little different report than ‘He had to be held back from going in the stands’

Yeah exactly.

Throwing a baseball at somebody in the stands is assault plain and simple

But it’s been refuted it. He didn’t throw it, no news or sports person is covering it. The team hasn’t said anything neither has the mlb. We should move on

People love Hendriks hooting and hollering when he gets a NON-SAVE out in the 8th inning, but Kopech can't show emotion when people are talking shit about his kid? Just lol

Kopech better get more thick skinned because now people will do it all the time now!

I think he will be fine most people aren’t complete trash people who talk about people’s kids

Wow, another red flag for Kopech.  The guy clearly has some issues.  He should be able to ignore heckling fans like every other major leaguer does.  He won’t last long at this rate.  Embarrassing!

I'd really like to see the Sox consider a six starter rotation to help keep everyone fresh to close the year and allow Kopech to start in October. Perhaps start in June/July, manage Kopech tighter until then, consider an occasional Lopez/Lambert start if there is a short term injury to keep Kopech on target for his target with October factored in.  Should help the other starters also manage their increased year over year innings.

Hell of a start - guy is so nasty and his command was so crisp.
