May 18, 20214 yr I read something a few days ago about the Arlington Park racetrack closing at the end of this season. There has been talk again about the a stadium being built there for the Bears. The writer also implied that it might be a site for a new White Sox stadium also. Perhaps 2 stadiums might be built on that land. One for the Bears and one for the White Sox.

May 19, 20214 yr If it's the racetrack i'm thinking of, I grew up very close to there. It's a pretty small area - I kind of doubt it could support the infrastructure necessary for one, let alone two stadiums, at least not without some creative land use. There's also a megachurch nearby that might cause some tension.
May 19, 20214 yr JR is 80 something and didn't want to foot the bill for infrastructure for a downtown ball park 30 years ago. He's not gonna self finance a park in Arlington Heights with its own set of logistical challenges now or in the next decade. There is also a minuscule chance any public money goes towards a new suburban stadium. I also don't see a new Sox park going anywhere but across 35th street from the current ballpark so this is all kind of moot.
May 19, 20214 yr I don't give a F about the Bears, but I would not be upset at all if they vacated the mistake on the lake and unclogged that part of the lakefront half of autumn Sundays.

May 19, 20214 yr I grew up in Arlington Heights, my house was right next to Flenty park, In the Arlington vista (for those who know the area). I had literal dreams that either the bears or sox built a stadium in the park next to my house and I walked to the games. Sure beats the youth girl softball leagues that played their when I was a kid in the 70's/80's.

May 19, 20214 yr The NFL seems to be pursuing this more than MLB. That site has come up for fifty years everytime a Chicago team needs leverage with their current landlord. It heated up a bit, no pun intended, after the fire. In the end it is a great location but our current teams are locked up.
May 19, 20214 yr Yeah, there's no way the reinsdorfs will give up a free stadium for one that they would [GASP!] actually have to pay for. At the same time, that land is worth more to the current owners and to Arlington Heights as a different type of development. And that's even BEFORE one considers NIMBY interference, lawsuits, and other roadblocks put up to potentially put in a stadium. Stadia typically aren't put into wealthy neighborhoods/towns. I wouldn't waste very much time thinking about this, in all honesty.
May 20, 20214 yr I am from Arlington Heights and I don't know how I'd feel about the Sox moving to AH. The Sox are the South Side team. I am not a south sider but I feel pride in the Sox being the south side team. Bears? Please move to Arlington. Get out of Soldier and let's get Arlington to host a Super Bowl, a Final Four, and countless other mega events.
May 20, 20214 yr I remember there was talk in the 90's of moving the Sox to Aurora/Naperville. (I believe it was off 88 close to where that outlet mall is currently) As a young kid living in Aurora it would have been a dream come true. These days I live even farther from the park (about 80 minutes without traffic) but still get to a good amount of games. I never experienced the old Comiskey so I don't have any attachment to the location/stadium. With that said I'm pretty indifferent if they move to another location in Chicagoland. My parents however grew up in "SOW CHICAGO" as they pronounce it and would probably find it sacrilege if the Sox played anywhere other than the south side. Edited May 20, 20214 yr by DoUEvenShift

Use another would-be "suitor" to artificially drive up the asking price. Reinsdorf to Chicago in the 80s: "See, Chicago? If you don't build me a free stadium, I'll move to Addison. Or Tampa!" Arlington Heights doesn't need or want professional sports. At best, if that land isn't developed before the Bears/Sox leases are up, Arlington Park will be used to get a better deal elsewhere for the reinsdorfs or McCaskeys.
