I think people are forgetting that before this season Kopech hadn't thrown a pitch in 2.5 years.  Now you want to change his role in the middle of the season?  I think that's pretty dangerous for a gu

  • Don't buy this. They aren't doing an MRI if there aren't some kind of symptoms. They may think the symptoms are nothing and doing the MRI out of caution but he felt something. Hopefully it is nothing

  • At the same time as other people in the bullpen were struggling and Kopech became a reliable arm. Sure the injury played a role here, but I guarantee you I wrote in the spring that he would become a 1

He's not out for the season. McKnight made a typo.

But he then said Tony acted like it will be a while and not just ten days

that's good, give him a month off let Kopech get some starts

Agreed. If this was a phantom IL trip you’d think they’d do it after the field of dreams game.

He's probably got some real soreness in that shoulder. He looked terrible on 5 days rest in his 2 starts prior to the Cubs start and he basically had no velocity and got hit around in both. If he could have gone tomorrow while throwing 97-99, I'm sure he would have. But he probably didn't like his bullpen session and they decided to IL him.

It’s gonna be Lopez though getting starts. Kopech isn’t going to be stretched out.

damn, wanted to see that Cole Rodon rematch

Did Cole and Rodon pitch against each other last time? I thought Rodon pitched on Friday and Cole pitched the next day we got hammered.

Yuck

Real bummer here unless this was a designed rest and everything else is show. Whatever it is - hope nothing serious and rodon is ready to crush it come October.

As someone said earlier, no way they would do this before tomorrow’s game unless there’s an actual issue.

This is exactly why give Rodon a big multi year deal is absurd.

I'd give him a medium sized deal with sizable bonuses.

not shocking with the amount of innings he has piled up this year and has injury history.

completely agree. Boras was salivating for a big deal , now depending on if surgery is needed I actually think a one year with an option and innings incentives are quite doable. Disappointed though I hope he is back by end of september. We need him in the playoffs.

Cole has COVID

This is why you don't pay Carlos Rodon $18-20M AAV.

The fact that he's still not off the IL after 10 days means he's probably still symptomatic. Robert and Cease came off the COVID IL in like 2 days after false positives.

Good idea. Hopefully just to rest and not an issue already.

PTATC if its just rest would he be getting checked out by the docs? is rest usually helpful if in pain?  honestly asking, the guy probably knows his body so well that if he feels something he knows its really something.

Rodon got placed on the IL last year around the same time after he was throwing 88 MPH against Milwaukee. He came back by September.

Yeah, I posted this before I read the whole thread. There is still the possibility that it's just a check to be sure there are no issues. However, more than likely there were some symptoms in the shoulder and they want to check it out.
