Lynn to start Game 1, Giolito Game 2

thoughts?

With Giolito's struggle with early starts i'd figured 3pm was better, but maybe they think Giolito game 2 has better chance of getting them a split ?

It’s nice that those demons will be fit and all, but hopefully he exorcises them as well.

TLR is living rent free in some people's heads.  Lynn back on short rest as a game 4 option is better then Giolito on short rest in game 4 and then Giolito has full rest in game 5. That is a better pl

Gio's masterful game one victory last year an afternoon game.  Like west coast time, that had to have been a 1pm start.

Also Lynn has added two pitches since that Astros start.  I would have pushed for Gio but I also can see having Gio be your stopper if things go south.

If the series doesn't go 5 games, it doesn't matter who starts game 1 and who starts game 2, but if the Sox lose Game 5 with Lynn starting I'm on record as thinking this is a bad decision.

Personally, I'd prefer Giolito pitching 2 games in Houston if necessary.  But I do love that Big Bastard....so go get em Lance!!!

I've stopped questioning TLR.

maybe

not what I would have done, but not going to bother getting bent out of shape about it now.

I believe Gio can still start Game 5 on normal rest.  Could be wrong though.

Day off, 2 games (game 3 and 4) at the rate, day off= 4 days. That seems to be true but I feel like they would just go with Lance.

This is definitely a "gut call" from TLR right? I mean we need Lynn to shove no matter what so he might as well exorcise his demons and dominate tomorrow.

This means they think Lynn's knee is healthy and he can make 2 starts this series if neccessary.  This is very very good.

It is what it is., but not how I would have slotted the rotation.

I believe both will be good, but have been worried about some of Lynn's away starts. I do think Lynn is maybe our best bet of a game not getting out of hand/screwing bullpen game one.

I like it because they will have the option of Lynn or Lucas in game 5.

I think it’s more because they think Lynn can pitch Game 4 on short rest if needed

My thought process is that they would be willing to use Lance on short rest for Game 4 (if needed), and then you can use Lucas in Game 5 (if needed), on normal rest.

Dumb.  But par for the course at this point.

I don't like it at all, unless it means - as Knights said - they want to keep Lucas on regular rest and he can go game 2-5. Doesn't bode well for Carlos, which sucks.

Lucas has been the best pitcher on the team in the second half; has only given up more than 3 ER's once. He's also a complete monster against elite competition and has been since he got good in 2019. He steps his game up and plays up to competition.

Gut call as in TLR was always going to start his boy despite what the numbers say.

Do not like.  I just don't think Lynn's all-fastballs, attack the hitter style works well against this lineup.  That said, I guess there is some logic to this approach if it allows them both two potential starts, and I'm hoping for the best and for Lynn to make me look bad.

I mean if Lynn get bombed and Gio shoves, I think there is no question that if it goes to five, he goes back to Gio. Who knows.  Hope Lance shoves tomorrow.

I don't think they'd want to start both Lynn and Gio on short rest.  If Rodon can't go game 4 I think they'd go with a Kopech/Crochet piggyback.

Yeah, hope Lynn shoves; just hope this isn't some dumb LaRussa veteran angle where we trust the veteran to go twice in the series over Lucas. If it ends up that the series goes 5 and Lynn pitches twice over Giolito, that's not great managing.

For me it is all about Lance's knee.  Hopefully this means he is fine, and not that he talked them into it even when he shouldn't be doing it.
