Jesus, what's gotten into these guys? This is honestly impressive. I'd have gone home.

Meeting #12 just ended…Hal Steinbrenner called it a night but sounds like things still rolling. Nothing yet on any new insights from last meeting.

As of about 3 hours ago I was pretty sure it would be extended and wrapped tomorrow.

Assuming a deal gets done today, how quickly can we expect the Sox to sign Michael Conforto?

That was my first thought. It came to me a little differently though:

”So… what time on Wednesday do we sign Conforto?”

Preferably around 3:00pm so I can be on Soxtalk and free of meetings.  Might need to block my calendar just to be safe.

Good news for us for at least the next couple of seasons:

Yes.

This could make Grandal the most valuable hitter on the team:

Welp, there goes work for tomorrow.

12 teams is way better than 14.

Agree.  40% of the league making the playoffs after a 162 game regular season is plenty.

I'd be a fan of shift restrictions.

Don’t wanna watch Manny in short right field anymore? ?

Well this was a fun few pages of discussion and updates to wake up to

Along with Leury, Eaton and Yonder Alonso....Darin Erstad might even be in play.

I think a decent compromise would be to allow shift changes in the 7th inning for at least this year. That way it speeds up the game while giving teams and players and off-season to see how it affects certain players performance.

The exxagerated shift basically ended Mark Teixeira's career.
2003-2009 BABIP .308
2010-2016 BABIP .246

The hard contact % and spray charts were essentially unchanged.

Of note for the Sox is that Grandal faced the 4th highest shift percentage (94.3%) of players with at least 200 PAs. Grandal had 16 left handed plate appearances without a shift so it's hard to know what the impact on him would be.

I would posit that physical issues and health/availability ended Texeiras career more than the shift did

Balta will be disappointed to hear this.

I’m ok with shifting but think it is a bit ridiculous when there are 5 guys in the outfield.

Why can’t they just have an upward adjustment in the CBT of something like a 3-3.5% increase each year (accounting for extraordinarily high inflation this cycle)…even 2.5% would be better.
