If this were in place for 2021, the Mariners and Blue Jays make the playoffs in the AL and the Reds and Phillies do in the NL. The Phillies won 82 games.

Preferable

Yeah, tbh last year this would have been the shit. Now, is that a byproduct of the no-waiver-deadline arms race causing a bunch of teams to load up on July 31st or an anomaly?

fuck expanded playoffs to 14. That's lunatic.

Is that a done deal? The tweet suggests it is?

More playoff teams really doesn't bother me at all.  Yea Philly was lame for most of the season but they were fun at the end and Blue Jays and Mariners were great at the end of the season

I hate seven playoff teams, but if you’re going to do it I do like the “pick your opponent” element of it.

Am I in favor of expanded playoffs? No. Does it kill any enjoyment of the game for me? Also no.

I will enjoy it either way.

Just pathetic

Do these guys realize they aren't on TV and nobody cares about these theatrics?

More playoff teams is total trash. Lowering standards does not result in more elite teams.

Depending on what was said here, I think mediation time is actually now.

15 damned minutes.  I shouldn't be surprised, but somehow I am.

It just sucks for the teams that actually had a fantastic season.  You win 100 games and then lose a 3 game series and go home.  Its terrible.

That's fair.  I am VERY against expanded playoffs.  I think its horrible.  But I it won't impact my love for the game one iota. Just think it removes a little beauty from the game.

I was optimistic in my over/under at 70 mins lol

I figured they'd get at least an hour in or there abouts.  Not 15 freaking minutes.

It really doesn't bother me.  100 game winners have lost in smaller playoffs and it was fine, we moved on.  100 game winners shouldn't be losing to teams that squeaked in

Whatever.

This is baseball. A 100 win team probably has a better chance of losing to the Diamondbacks in a 5 game series than a bottom team in the NBA does of winning against a 1 seed (or a 16-1 upset in the NCAA tourney).

Agree with Jon here.  The MLBPA probably just presented its offer and told MLB to think it over, talk to the owners, and get back to them.  Nothing wrong with that.  I'm actually pretty encouraged with the way things are going.  Yes, it's moving slowly, but neither side is immediately running to a microphone to disparage the other side in the media, or releasing snarky press releases.

In a 7 game series, I agree.  In a 3 game series legitimately anything can happen.  Its baseball.  95-100 win teams are going to lose to slightly above .500 teams regularly in the 2 vs. 7 seed three game series under this format.

Its a stupid way to go out after grinding for 162.  Win your division or go home.  1 WC was enough.  2 was dumb but acceptable.  Anything further is just a money grab. But, such is life.
