Sox give no qualifying offers

This team is more expensive and significantly worse today than they were at the end of the season. This is a tough performance to replace without spending considerably more.

Lol…good thing the offseason literally just started!

I wonder what it would take to get Wheeler.

Well wait till we trade for 3rd tier garbage and lightning in a bottle broken FAs so the owner can keep more of his fortune. They are going to totally screw up this window due to the owner playing games like he is 60 and not 80+.

No free agents have signed yet. Good analysis.

It would all depend on Rodons availability.  I fully suspect they will bring in another starter.Kopech takes Rodons role, they basically are at where they were last year with the rotation. Maybe Keuchel bounces back a bit. He has before. The bullpen is going to need some work.

They're definitely not going to dump a Top 3 NL pitcher to assume Kimbrel's deal....kind of counterproductive.

Which ironically is what Rodon was this time a year ago.

Angels likely to now turn around and work out a multi-year deal for Iglesias...fwiw.

Just an FYI. If Rodon had signed say with the Angels or a similar team last offseason, the odds are still overwhelming the Sox would have still  won the division. And that is with Keuchel being useless and a ton of huge injuries.

Once every fifteen or twenty years move, like Jenks and Loiaza.

Rodon was a dirt cheap in house option.  When we see Adam Eaton-esque signings for pennies on the dollar then we can say the off-season is in full swing.

They can also use it towards a second baseman or a right fielder because if they plug in Kopech in the rotation and they don’t trade Keuchel, you have Giolito, Lynn, Cease, Kopech and Keuchel as the starting five.

I don’t think you can go with that as you’re starting five next year.  You have to assume Kopech & Keuchel will play limited roles in the postseason do to innings limits (and likely performance with Dallas), which means you’re one injury to Giolito, Lynn, & Cease before getting into real trouble.  I think the Sox passing on Rodon is because they have free agent starters in mind they like better.

Rodon was a free agent who had one healthy season in six years because he was always hurt. If he wasn't the definition of a bottle broken free agent, no one is.

Good move Hahn, no way I’m giving China doll arm a qualifying offer. CR has not pitched a complete season injury free in years. He will be on IL multiple times next year.

Exactly.  If Rodon was what he was before 2021, he would be bitching about bringing him back.

Yup!  Although I’m glad most people aren’t blaming Kimbrel’s option for this.

Well let's see what they bring in now. We need to win now. We have three starters Cease, Giolito, Lynn.  On promising guy in Kopech who will be need to be stretched and an expensive boat anchor Keuchel.

Kopechs innings situation next season will be similar to Rodons this year.

They’ll pace Kopech a lot more.  I think Rodon’s success caught them by surprise at the beginning.
