good arms for the brewers ace factory. My opinion is they may have not traded at the peak of value, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't trade him at the peak of his performance.

They are but they also won't keep Hader past next year. They got 2 prospects, Lamet who maybe needs a change of scenery and another left-handed reliever.

Hader going to get $15 million in arbitration and thats too much for one player with their payroll limitations in Mil.

Lamet provides a potential starter and swingman…had one great season and injury riddled ever since.

Plus they have a solid bullpen by committee with Devin Williams now getting most opportunities but also matchup based.

Ruiz will be a fourth outfielder, defensive replacement and PR.

 

Very very similar to the idea of Rays trading Choi in the next 24 hours to the Yankees, despite his being their second or third best hitter…or Adames last year, which was a bad trade for the Rays that backfired.  But they won the Ramirez/Paredes deal this year.

All under the radar type moves that never draw headlines.  Diego Castillo to the Mariners last year as well comes to mind.

Players get to Year 1-2 of arbitration and goodbye, with few exceptions.

He's the 9th best qualified outfielder in baseball this year by WAR.

Profar has been very good.

Profar has been very good.

That contract too expensive for Sox blood, but certainly much better returns than Leury/Harrison combined.  Same with the Kim deal being quite significant.  He’s an excellent defender and solid offensively this year.  Also could have played second for White Sox.

Profar basically saved them with Tatis and Myers out…and Grisham in a puzzling season long slump.

They got a closer back in the deal plus prospects, pretty nice deal there. I would do it.

I would 100% have traded Hendriks for the same.

White Sox wouldn't get 2/3rds or even 1/2 of that package for Hendricks because of the unique salary and tax structure, health concerns, age, and gopher ball issues.

Hader (7 in 34 innings) has allowed more home runs than Hendriks (5 in 35 innings) this year. In fact, in what's a down year for both of them, Hendriks has been clearly better.

That said, I agree that the weird contract structure would make things tough

If you watched Hendricks closely this year, nearly every single save has been a high wire act like Colome two seasons ago.

And Liam now has that red flag out there with the forearm tightness.  Plus, he's older.  Both probably suffering from overuse.

Finally, Hader is much more familiar with the NL.

 

And Hader gave up three homers in basically one inning of the same game 2-3 weeks ago.

Finally, how do you sell the fanbase on competing next year with Graveman, Kelly or Lopez closing?

Hahn would look like an idiot yet again.

Hendriks is valuable because he is under a reasonable contract for two more seasons, whereas Hader is under contract for a year and two months. 37 year old Bard just got $19M for two seasons.

At any rate could care less if they trade Hendriks.

Josh Hader has the highest career strikeout rate in baseball history, and while that’s at least a little about the era in which he plays and the way in which he is used, he’s still a 28-year-old who has the highest career strikeout rate in baseball history -- and he’s not even a rental, because the Padres can retain him for 2023, as well.

In case you’re wondering why the Brewers, a team leading the NL Central, might be willing to move him, well, you’re not alone. Maybe they know something we don’t; Hader, for what it’s worth, is in the midst of one of the worst stretches of his career. Maybe they think they can turn Lamet (30 years old) and Rogers (31), each currently struggling, but with not-distant runs of success in their past, into approximations of Hader, and get two prospects for the trouble.

Given that the Padres get the best player in the deal, and that they did it without giving up any of the prospects they needed to get Soto, it’s a clear win there.
