TOR is in the same position as the Braves. They have 3 catchers with Jansen, Kirk, and Moreno. They *could* move one to solidify their pen. Supposedly they asked for Helsley from the Cards for Jansen.

2B almost certainly will be trade or internal if we sign a free agent OF.

Robert & Cease aren't going anywhere, and I don't think there's enough left in the org to land Varsho. Just eyeballing it myself, he looks like a top ~50 trade value guy in baseball right now.

McCarthy would be a good get even if it's not super exciting. Alek Thomas would be great but I'm not sure if Arizona would seriously be looking to deal him.

Especially when Seby & Carlos Perez are totally fine backups if Yaz is completely cooked.

Trading for a catcher with those two already on the roster would just be dumb.  Which is why I fear it could happen.  I think Yaz is cooked and is a DFA candidate, but you’re stuck with him for now.  Don’t compound that problem by forcing him into a DH/1B spot where you actually need production.  If he’s not splitting time at catcher he’s completely useless and shouldn’t be on the roster.

But who would they be perfectly fine backups for, in that case, if you haven’t acquired one?

 

I don’t think Grandal has very many games behind the plate in a sox uniform behind the plate. Presumably if they acquire a catcher, it would be a long term solution and the 50 games Grandal starts behind the plate won’t mean much in the grand scheme. Almost any catcher is going to have his backup play a substantial amount of games anyway

Lawrence's source said 1 year $10M so if we were outbid (assuming it's all true) then what might we be looking at ? Incentives? Option year? 2 years guaranteed ?

I don't think it's a given Yaz is cooked, but everything else we agree on. Any game Yaz plays at DH is a total waste. Save his legs and go with one of the other countless 1B/DH options instead.
