I took the All-in comment to be a direct jab.   “You were all in man!”

Wasnt 2011 our “All in.” Failure?

Yes, behind the Adam Dunn signing...largely.

Lance Brozdowski on Drohan's changeup:

Quote

Changeup results look amazing. 45% swing-miss to righties, sub .200 xwOBA. 8" and 8 mph separation off the fastball, probably some deception going on to get those results, rarely missing glove-side into zone with it.

Throwing more cutter to righties, 9" iVB, 2" arm-side with some sweepers mixed in. Backs off cutter to lefties and goes for bigger sweeper, inconsistent shape. Anywhere from 6" to 14" sweep from 82 to 85. Lefties giving him more fits than I would expect. Righty results appear a bit inflated.

Tougher one to parse out given how deep the mix is but the CH to righties is clearly good.

He has to go on the 26 man or be sent back right? Wonder if he's anything worth kicking the tires on.

He's still on the 60-day IL. Yes, he needs to be on the 26-man for 90 days of the season. He certainly looks like starter material.

After 90 days, does he just become a normal player again without any restrictions?

Once he clears his rehab (which I believe can last up to a month) yes.

After this season, assuming he is rostered for at least 90 active days.,

Have to think so given he'll already be on the 40 man at that point, won't be anything else to do other than hopefully enjoy some decent performance for cheap.

He has to be on the active 26-man roster for "all season". However, due to injuries, if he spends at least 90 days on the active roster, that counts as a season, and he's the unconditional property of the White Sox. The league assumes the Sox don't play IL games, or whatnot.

As per MLB.com:

Rule 5 Draft picks are assigned directly to the drafting club's 26-man roster and must be placed on outright waivers in order to be removed from the 26-man roster in the subsequent season. Should the player clear waivers, he must be offered back to his previous team for $50,000 and can be outrighted to the Minors only if his original club does not wish to reacquire him. A Rule 5 Draft pick can be placed on the Major League injured list, but he must be active for a minimum of 90 days to avoid being subject to the aforementioned roster restrictions in the next campaign.

He is sort of on the 40.  He was on the 40, but is on the 60 day DL, so there will have to be an open spot on the 40 for him to be added back to.  As of today, it is only 39 people, so they could add him back without making another move on the 40.  But if the 40 added another person, they would have to clear a spot for Drohan.  60 day Il guys don't count for the 40 man roster count.

Right. The injury might actually help us a bit here. Gets it down to 90 days and allowed us to, well, allowed us to give another shitty vet or two a couple more weeks of big league p**** this spring. The Sox never stop thinking.

So he would need to make the big league active roster by the beginning of July and stay on it (and stay healthy) until the very end of the season?  Or get activated a month earlier in June which would allow him to miss a little time until the end of the season?

Yeah, the kid has been drawing a major league salary for two months, as well as service time.  I am sure he didn't want to be injured, but he got lucky he was a Rule 5 pick because he went from the MiLB IL with no money, to somewhere around around $200/250k for being hurt by the time he is cleared for action.

It seems like it does, but I would think activating him to the big league roster in June would be best to allow for some buffer of a short IL stint.  It’s still cutting it close though.

Yes. If he were reinjured, and were put on the IL, so that he could not make 90 days on the active 26-man, he would remain on the White Sox and his Rule 5 status would be in effect for the 2025 season.

Is he any good?

The Sox picked him, so probably not.
