February 2, 20242 yr This isn’t an indictment on Getz at all. If this was the quality of players they were giving up, no thanks.

February 2, 20242 yr Maybe Sports Guy was Elias after all. It seems they really only wanted Ortiz to be the headliner lol.

February 2, 20242 yr Author 34th pick in the draft too. Comp pick. That makes it a bit better. Extra bonus pool money to play with is not to be sneezed at. Edited February 2, 20242 yr by DirtySox

The Orioles address a need with guys they didn't have room for. The Brewers get depth and control for a guy with little control - when they were already down Woodruff.

But it’s not a good one to one comparison with Cease having two years of control. What does 1.5 times to double this package in value look like?
February 2, 20242 yr Looks like the pending Orioles sale will at least short term benefit the people of Baltimore. It's clear previous Orioles ownership was committed to doing the bare minimum in terms of contract commitments until they reached agreement both with the State of Maryland, who are pissed and calling the Angelos family scumbag liars, which they most certainly are and have been for decades, and before closing their deal with the hedge fund people Caulfield exposed. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/02/latest-details-on-sale-of-orioles.html Quote Treasurer Dereck Davis said that Angelos “categorically denied that that they were for sale” before selling the team. “It wasn’t just that we weren’t told something. We were lied to,” Davis said. “The transparency that was required — it was not there,” Gov. Moore said. “And it’s disappointing.” Still glad Getz is holding out for a great deal. I'm fine starting the season with Cease. There will be injuries among the handful of legitimate spending contending teams willing to spend, and the Sox should get a solid return for Cease assuming the White Sox are not in the AL Central Division lead or hunt in late July.

No, but it completely satisfies the Orioles need for pitching and does so without sacrificing their best prospects. The fact that Burnes and Bieber were both likely available was an obvious thing that would undercut the market for Cease, they would be available for a much lower prospect price.

That's exactly why it was so unlikely that Cease would get moved this winter.
February 2, 20242 yr If you think Hall can actually start, then there is some logic to the move for the Brewers. That’s a big if though. I would expect Adames to traded next though.

Are we actually comparing Burnes and Bieber? And all the rumors suggested Burnes wasn’t very available.

It doesn’t completely satisfy the Orioles needs at all. The Orioles need starting pitching for more than just one year, which is what Burnes will be for them. Their competitive window is not one season.
