  • Good lord dude, a guy like Rodriguez should be worth more to the white Sox than cash or a bunch of old ass never wases they kept over him. Everyone else is right and you are wrong. If it was June

Chris Getz and his awful roster management should be DFA.

  • He grabbed some cash while preserving roster spots for the bevy of 30+ stiffs and AAAA players.

What rumors?

Who knows.  He must’ve killed someone for the Sox to intentionally cut him.  I mean, they had no problem signing Clevinger afterall.

I mean, this is a clubhouse culture that has been built on the broad shoulders of Pedro, who comes from the Kansas City culture that loved to fight everyone.

What is that?

There was some type of family issue that caused him to miss a month. Some posters have talked about it in detail at this site at times.

This is a trash move. Trash. They have a bunch of hasbeens that are old with no upside and you drop a 22 year old who has at least flashed at times. Good grief.

Seriously could be one of the worst transactions since the Shields trade, and I wasn’t even very high on Rodriguez.

A live arm lottery ticket would have been nice but you’re not exactly in a position of power at the negotiating table when the guys already been DFA.

Guys.....do you honestly believe that Jose Rodriguez wasn't shopped around the league prior to being DFA? 30 clubs just showed you his value. The Sox received cash considerations because that's very likely the best offer they received. There's not some pot of gold at the end of the rainbow that they missed out on here.

The point was why cut him over other stiffs. This is poor roster management.  Not saying Popeye will be any good - but don’t cut the 22 year old who has flashed a little bit when you have a bunch of crap that is old and proven to be turds on the 40 man.

Note: If Jose did something awful - fine - move him, but let’s not imply the Sox have shown they have much of a standard there.

You are acting like there was only one option.  How about you don’t DFA Rodriguez and simply cut some bum from the bullpen like Leone or Shaw.  Then you can let Rodriguez play in the minors to see if he breaks out.  You could always re-sign bums like Leone or Shaw, or any other garbage reliever filler at a later date once the roster crunch is settled.  The Sox obviously have no problem playing down a man, as was evident with waiting to put Eloy on the IL.  No one can convince me that Rodriguez isn’t worth more than a Leone or Shaw.

Something had to give at some point though. They clearly chose Shewmake and Sosa over him. You can't roster all of these guys.

Let's play this out. Clevinger signs and they DFA Leone. Totally fine with me. Roster is at 40 and they need another pitcher. Are you calling up Horn, Berroa or Speas because those are the options? The argument should probably be that Dejong gets cut and they could play Sosa/Shewmake in a lost season with Rodriguez at AAA. They clearly don't mind losing Rodriguez though.

DFA Shaw too.  Who cares?  He’ll be there to re-sign.  It’s a lost season like you said.  Have Lopez or any other worthless player on this roster pitch in a blowout.

Right but then you'd need to replace him with a pitcher from the 40-man and those guys don't really exist right now. I feel like you aren't understanding. Unless you'd just add Horn and Berroa even though they might not be ready. Bryan Shaw's exist so that you don't have to use prospects prematurely.

Play a man down in the bullpen just like they did with Eloy, add a reliever to thr 40-man, who cares?.  Who cares about adding 26 year old Horn to the 40 man?  Dude is getting rocked in AAA.  If he doesn’t make it soon, he’s a nothing prospect anyways.

Why would they go with 12 pitchers though? That doesn't make any sense either.

Because it doesn’t matter?  They already played a position player down for three whole games before placing Eloy on the IL and calling up Grossman.

Getz fucked up.  It’s not the first time.

I'm sorry but you don't just give up a 22 year old prospect who has shown some promise when your team isn't competing for the next couple years. Half the 40 man shouldn't even be on a 40 man roster at this point

Also, all other MLB teams knew that Eloy was hurt and the Sox needed to make a roster move eventually.  If Rodriguez was truly shopped around at this time, are we to believe that teams couldn’t put two and two together on why he was being shopped?  There was an interested team, the Phillies, and they knew they could acquire Rodriguez for a pittance, which they did.  So expecting a return for Rodriguez when Getz would basically be telegraphing why he was trying to deal him would be a bit ridiculous.

Why do we keep jettisoning 20-22 year olds for 26+?

Plus, we heard all last year how Burger at 26/27 wasn't going to be on the next White Sox playoff team.

Well, who is, exactly?

To save Bailey Horn from being added to the 40-man roster, a 26 year old LOOGY with a 20 ERA in AAA.  If he pitched or doesn’t pitch for the 1-6 Sox, would it even matter?

The fact is that Getz has managed the 40-man roster like an ass clown for any of these problems to arise.

It's like the Sox are trolling the fans daring them to buy tickets to come see wretched old guys play. It's a fireable offense (Getz) just putting together a team with the 7, 8, 9 hitters we have.

This team is in no position to lose Top 30 prospects for nothing

Yes, they valued a bunch of bad veterans over a kid who could possibly be something.  We are going to lose 100+ games and continue to age up this roster with old rentals who won’t move the needle.  It’s not about the specific players being DFAed…it’s about the general roster management in which an organization completely lacking in young players keeps ridding themselves of them.

This move makes no sense on the surface. There has to be more to the story.

What did he f*** up?

He’s barely a top 30 prospect at multiple outlets. There was significant regression on his plate discipline. They didn’t lose him for nothing. They traded him for cash which is what MLB determined he was worth
