Story on Sox trade possibilities...

I disagree. The Orioles are much more of a sure thing to win a World Series over the next few years according to the pundits than the Sox ever were.

I'm gonna back you up here.

Lots of pundits were picking the Sox to reach the World Series in 2021.

Th The issue is that the Sox don't get the perks of small market clubs. Can only draft in the top 6 one time instead of twice in a row, they don't receive extra competitive balance draft picks

And that is just from his own players wanting to leave.

If the return for Crochet was reduced for taking the Benny contract, Chris Getz should be fired for making that theoretical deal.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t recall seeing articles like this in back to back years predicting the Sox would win multiple pennants in the coming years like they are predicting with the Orioles.

Don't you remember when we got rid of Grandal and it fixed everything? Look how a real catcher has turned around our pitching.

The Sox were certainly a trendy pick.

There's no such thing as 3+ year windows with a collection of players. In 3 years, so much could change. The orioles appear to be positioned great bit that means nothing 3 years from now imo.

Only way to stay elite for an extended period is typically to spend in addition to developing.

The Orioles still need a decent amount of front line pitching.  Honestly, this got lost in all of the mess with the immigrant O's fans, but there was definitely a camp of us who felt that Baltimore has enough talent, but needed to rebalance their roster pitching-wise to be able to make that run, and that they needed to either trade for it, or sign it, because it wasn't in the system, and if they f*** around, they might just find out, and miss their window.

I don’t really think so. Pitching is year to year imo. They are going to be at least what the brewers have been for last 7 years except the offensive version, and with good luck you win a WS

Idk about three year outlook, but the Sox were a very, very trendy 2021 pick.

Pick your divergent point: Eloy hitting the wall, Yermin's 3-0 slam, or TLR's DUI

Betting odds going into that season had them 3rd best.

There are lots of individual articles out there going into the season and all of them mention the Sox in some form.

The Sox were a trendy pick going into 2021 only if I remember correctly. I don’t recall them having the same multi year hype the orioles have had recently though.

Crazy to think that the Orioles are a Burnes injury away from not even making the playoffs this year despite a great offense. Meanwhile, Guardians have JRam, Kwan and a bunch of no names in their lineup and seem to match up just fine with the Orioles.

They were a popular pick headed into 2021 for sure but I don’t recall there being multiple articles from mlb.com or others picking them to win the World Series like I do with the Orioles.

One can argue the new bullshit playoff format hurt them last year. There’s no benefit finishing with one of the two best records and not playing 3-4 days in a row and then having to play a team that just grinded their way into next round.

5 of 15 was perfect except they don’t need divisions. And the one game knockout with the 4 and 5 seeds is ok too. There are too many teams playing for the middle now, and why shouldn’t they? You actually have a shot. But does it make MLB or the postseason better? I don’t think so.

It's funny I would have really thought @Harold's Leg Liftwould be more in this thread. If there is a singular data point to congrats Getz on it's making Garrett train like a starter in spring and execute it into mid summer to the tune of a Cy Young winning type first half.

Cool.

You would think so since this actually one of the couple successes. But it's probably because he was drafted pre-Getz GM days.

Brewers play in the NL central. Big difference.

It's better being a pirates fan than a white sox fan. Amazing honestly

They have a mediocre, but fun team with a club legend in Cutch still performing well enough to give the fans some cheer once and while and are running out some young talent in a stars and scrubs configuration. It really is amazing we can't even match that mid aughts definition of White Sox success.

Going to be that way for a while too.

Keuchel gave up 5 earnies in 4 innings. He may not be the answer for the Brew Crew. Fedde would be a good get for them.

Sure helps that Baltimore still has a bunch in the pipeline, including the #1 prospect in baseball.

I really like Seattle for us as a trade partner. Each of their top 10 prospects are position players and they have 4 top 100… 2 of which are near the top 25.

My guess:

O’s and Dodgers try for Crochet or Freddie

Mariners shoot for Robert

Padres shoot for Pham

I wonder if the Mariners would really break the bank for a Crochet or Feddie plus Robert deal?

I just don’t see any way the Sox make a trade with Baltimore. I’m not even factoring them in the discussion right now.

AL East much toughest.. .Nobody saw the division (Central) playing out like 2006 again.

I’m shocked they even gave him a shot.  That’s desperate.
