The reality of Getz getting his ass played like a fiddle in the majority of his trades.

He actually has to win a major trade first...or it will be just like the Bears and developing a QB.  (Or even not messing up already developed prospects.)

  • Who cares? The White Sox can't get any lower. They are going to be awful for years. If the Cubs are willing to pony up, do it.

He won the Robbie Grossman trade if you want to call it “major” 😁

Heyman reporting Sox should get a blue chip prospect and more.  Seems to think it will be a huge haul.

If Abreu is the headliner that is a loss

Did he mention anything else of interest?

You mean that Lux is available?

😀

Everytime I see Baltimore mentioned I roll my eyes

Dodgers 2B Gavin Lux, dangled in at least one deadline bid, seem like a trade candidate, especially with Mookie Betts moving to the infield.

And reality slaps Sox fans right in the face, cold and hard…

Getz would be okay with a headliner that will turn 26 next season.

Meanwhile, some posters wouldn’t trade Crochet straight up for what will be a 21 year old Jackson Holliday with true star potential.

You know this is "pulled from his heinie" BS, right? Sean McAdam also said Tristan Casas could headline a trade for Crochet.

I’m 90% optimistic that Getz will get a really good package for Crochet.  The other 10% fears that Harold is Getz and we are going to do something really stupid.

Just to remind folks, we saw this article again and again last year about Cease. In the end, it was basically all coming from Getz, leaking to try to drive a market when one didn't exist.

It seems pretty damn obvious there is going to be a market for Crochet, though. The shine on Cease was for sure low at the time. The time to move him was the 2023 deadline.

I agree this seems likely but that doesn't mean I buy the leak at all.

It's possible that the Phillies or someone like that are after Crochet and a market develops early.

It is similarly possible that the Crochet market gets hung up by something like Sasaki. The Dodgers, for example, might really like Crochet, but they may also not want to pay a high price for Crochet if they think there's a good chance they land Sasaki. So, this could EASILY be Getz doing the same thing and trying to push a market to exist early.

We heard all about how Cease was going to net a huge haul and how Fedde was going to net a top 100 prospect, as well as a lesser prospect or two.  So far, Getz’s returns for his larger trades have been mediocre at best.  I guess we shall see…

I personally want nothing to do with a dodgers trade for Crochet, we were already fleeced by them at the trade deadline. Go after someone else’s prospects at this point

if Zavala turns out to be a good player, is the Cease trade a 'good' trade? Sure wasn't the package I would've wanted, predicated on a pitcher who throws as slow as I do. I just don't think you can actually 'grade' this deal yet. It strikes me as difficult to judge any baseball trade in the moment unless it is for major league talent. The Dodgers obviously did something smart by acquiring Edman and Kopech even if Vargas turns into something.

Was the Fedde deal a good one? I don't think so. Again though, the jury is out, though Vargas is arguably the worst MLB player I've ever watched play on a semi regular basis. But he was acquired for essentially nothing; the Fedde deal was smart, a move that no other team thought to make, I think you have to give Getz credit for that if you're going to critique what he was traded for.

Why I actually opened this thread was to congratulate Crochet for winning Comeback Player of the Year! However, he's not really 'coming back' from anything. He's always been good, he's just finally healthy and was given an opportunity to start. He deserves some credit for his excellent season that nobody anticipated. I want to '#throw back thursday' to all those SoxTalk posters and facebook users who thought he sucked and wouldn't be able to start because "well look at the previous innings he pitched". pseudo-statistical 'projection'. it's meaningless. I'm sure MLB teams still 'project' players based on their three previous years' performance. meaningless and unhelpful.

Yep, the Dodgers know exactly who to dump…

Vargas

Nastrini

Leasure

I say no to that garbage as well.

Lux makes absolutely zero sense for the Sox being a mediocre 2B with only 2 years of control left before he hits free agency, all while the Sox are pretty much guaranteed to suck.

Which is probably why our awful GM will trade for him — because it makes no sense.

Those last 2 came in a deal for a guy who was one of the worst SP and another guy who was one of the worst RP that year so not really the same page.
