There is no rational argument for the Ricketts being worse than Jerry.  The latter is a no doubt bottom four owner in baseball right now along with Nutting,  Fisher, and whoever owns the Rockies.

Even the A's are spending to qualify for their revenue sharing subsidy of $70 million...

Right. They're spending to keep their revenue sharing. They're not spending because they've "seen the light" and now understand that bro-dudes will like them if they spend their billions to buck up these bro-dudes' manhood with sports victories.

I agree. I hate Ricketts on principle, but he should be basking in good will for 2016, and subsequent beatification of "Wrigleyville". And they all just hunker down and cry poor. I consider myself fairly liberal, but I completely understand a guy owning a business, and just spending what he can to get customers in the door. Spending $450M on a guy like Tucker seems performative, even if he does produce. "Look at how much I want to WIN!!!!"

Just so bro-dudes can feel mighty while taking credit for other men playing baseball and winning games.

But he shouldn't be worrying about $10M, or an extra year for a reliever, or whatnot.

Oh I agree with this.  But the Ricketts allow their front office to run a modern baseball org, which up until now (and a huge maybe), Jerry has been against.

'When you say “try to break even every year,” it connotes that you are affirmatively trying to manage money in a way that emphasizes the reduced spending part since that is entirely within the team’s control (as opposed to winning more games to generate more revenues …); and (2) teams and team-related assets have appreciated like crazy in major pro sports for decades now, so even if the team doesn’t turn an annual “profit,” it is absolutely generating significant additional wealth every year.'

Well, somehow the White Sox are the exception here to this rule.

Funny thing is Ricketts took advantage of that and sold a small part of the team to fund all the renovations.

You keep saying this as if it proves some point. The A's are spending at that level because MLB decided spending below that level is too embarrassing and sad. Even for the A's. White Sox said hold my beer.

The point it proves is that yours and Caulfield's made up narratives are not true. MLB didn't tell the As that their level of spending was embarrassing. There's an actual reason why the As are spending up.

Looks like they want Smith/Schultz to both pitch 110 minor league innings this year, then ramp up to 140-160 in 2026 (both hitting majors at some point) ...

This is good to hear.  No need to rush them.

“C’mon kid. Don’t you wanna move across the country as an 11 year old so you can go to Pirates games instead of Dodgers games?”

How on earth was CC Sabathia a first ballot HOF (86%) of votes and Buehrle received 11% of the votes?  Their stats are strikingly similar (apart from K rate) over their careers.

To be fair, IDK if I think either are HOF worthy.. But one certainly shouldn't be head and shoulders over the other.

A cash offer of $200K might go over better.
