Shocking.

Is Fegan there?

Our new free over the air attenae network staff?

Juxtaposed against hundreds of media (including Japan) for the Dodgers at the same facility.  Must be a strange feeling...the best franchise together with one of the worst.

Fegan interviews Venable, Gonzalez, Davis Martin

https://soxmachine.com/2025/02/white-sox-open-camp-emphasizing-environment-over-expectations/

"Gonzalez had three hits and three RBIs apiece in that game in Montgomery, using a new leg kick as a loading action to keep his weight back, after offseason work to maintain his direction at the plate forced him to rework his timing through a season where he slashed .238/.307/.343 across two levels. It was only a small handful of games that Gonzalez was able to try out the move with a swing that’s been remodeled in multiple ways at this point, but the initial results encouraged him to keep working on it through the winter."

Haha, this is no doubt going to go swimmingly and without a hitch based on past history.

“With that being said, it’s a great opportunity to be matched up at a facility with a team that won the World Series to have something to aim toward. How are we going to beat them? How can we compete? The Dodgers have been a very successful organization. With that being said, we know what we need to do, and we’re setting out to do that.”

Spending on free agents obviously would help. But with that being said, Getz knew when he accepted the job in 2023 that a full-scale rebuild was his only option.

Last paragraph seems a bit like revisionist history.

And yet he didn't trade Luis Robert at peak value in 2023.  He's either an idiot, or he's lying.  Pick one.

Both

I'm so tired of listening to Getz talk and do his rounds like he has accomplished anything (Other then losing the most games in history).  He seems so prideful and boastful of this process/rebuild he is putting in place.   He needs to STFU and talk less until his teams on the field play the type of baseball that will bring many of us back.

Loser organization always doing loser things.

Barfield and Venable much quieter.

Must be Getz positioning for same AL Executive of the Year Hahn won in 2019.

The same Hahn and Haber that are totally out of baseball now.

This Dodgers one is particularly baffling cause they've shared Camelback for so long that Getz was a player for the Sox when it first opened.

If this magical success-by-osmosis was going to happen, it'd have probably happened by now. Why didn't Chris walk over to their minor league fields in the past 8 years and figure out how to run a farm?

Martin is still learning from Michael Kopech at least lol.

They maybe could/should have realized that AJ Pollock wasn't a right fielder...for example.

Well at least he hasn't been talking about how easy the AL Central is to beat.

I know Sullivan or some other reporter set up Getz with a stupid question about the Dodgers, but it’s still a strange response.  Almost like he is saying — hey, forget that we set that futility record last year.  We play ST games in the same facility as an actual major league franchise!  The Dodgers are really good so it’s possible that we could be too one day!

Exactly what @Quin said above — like Getz is hinting that this will somehow make the Sox better.  Improvement via osmosis, lol.

I don't think anyone in the baseball world thought 2023 Luis Robert would be "peak value."

I could see it. It is before he gets expensive. Not his peak as a performer, but peak value is a reasonable thought IMO. And if you are staring at 121 losses, than more than likely at least 100, then probably another not so good year, you are looking at the first possible year of contention, his last year of control. That is if a ton of stuff that never goes right for the White Sox, goes right. You're going to lose him anyway.

We have gone from Hahn saying things that actually meant nothing, to Getz saying things that don't quite add up in reality.

Back in 23, there was also a possibility that Robert was the one cost controlled cornerstone player you could build around.

With his salary coming up year over year, his first full healthy MVP type year, and if you REALLY thought this was a full rebuild, there was no more valuable player for the Sox on the open market at that time.

I am beyond excited for spring games. Way beyond.

Just to say it - it's entirely possible that no team out there would come anywhere close to paying a fair price for a player with his injury history.

While I don't think Getz has been good on his trades, without knowing what other teams might have offered, especially if they thought Getz would actually move him - its hard to evaluate whether there was a plausible return worth moving him for.
