Bonemar is 19 years old. Let him develop. There is no need to rush him. The Sox have ruined many players by rushing their development. It's his first year in pro ball, and it's a grind. I'm fine with him staying the whole year in Low A or maybe sending him up to High A the last month of the season.

This.  There is no reason to rush a kid who isn't even a year out of high school.

I agree there’s no need to rush Bonemer. One concern, however, is that A ball pitchers won’t pitch to him. He’s being walked a lot. Some of it is him being selective, some of it is opponents have decided they’re not gonna let him beat them. At a certain point, the Sox may decide that he has to go up to be challenged. But that would be much closer to the end of the season.

Unless the GM is worried about getting fired and he needs to rush his draft picks. That's usually why prospects are rushed.

We aren't rushing him. He has totally owned that level and it's not a small sample size either.

He has played 51 games and has a WRC+ of 148 with an absurd walk rate of close to 20%. He isn't being challenged there by the pitching.

Move him up to High A.

Braden should also be promoted to AA at some point in the very near future. Just get that BA up a bit and improve contact and get the K rate back down under 20%. It shouldnt be too long with Braden if he can keep hitting well and with power and keeping Ks in relative check, maybe a few more weeks.

Zavala should also hopefully see some substantial time in AA this year too if he can keep hitting well at the plate as he has done recently.

Totally fine with the top guys skipping Charlotte in my opinion, but alright.

Ugh, I would rather he go directly to the majors. Charlotte is where pitchers go to die. Look at Pallette.

Thought this was really interesting from Bannister on twitter:

I am not an huge fan of Personnel dropping themselves to engage with social media types, as typically draws into a lowest common denominator type discussion.

Also the biggest thing for Dutch is this his first year as a true starting pitcher.  He's literally never pitched late into games before this year.  Learning how to make your stuff last 100 pitches instead 50 is a challenge he is undergoing for the first time in his life.  Some loss of stuff should be expected if you understand the game at all.

I wish Bannister would also talk more about what Schultz is working on to get RHH out.

Pallette is fine. It seems like he’s having issues with the AAA ball

Wolkow on the hot sheet.

Quote

16. George Wolkow, OF, White Sox

Team: Low-A Kannapolis (Carolina)
Age: 19
Why He’s Here: .421/.522/.895 (8-for-19), 6 R, 0 2B, 0 3B, 3 HR, 7 RBIs, 3 BB, 3 SO, 1-for-3 SB
The Scoop: There’s little question about Wolkow’s impact potential. There is, however, plenty of reason to wonder if he’ll make enough contact. This past week, he provided a taste of what his ceiling might look like if he can sand off the rough edges. This marks the second straight week in which Wolkow has provided early-summer fireworks. Overall in June, he’s hitting .405/.490/.690 with four home runs and—more importantly—just six strikeouts in 49 plate appearances. It’s a glimmer, but it’s progress, especially considering he had punched out 53 times in his previous 183 plate appearances. (JN)

I love that he is doing this with about a 10% K rate.  We will see if it lasts and all, but this is the kind of kid we need a breakout from if we are going to do anything more than turn out already finished products from other organizations in terms of prospects.

Murph has been on a good run too

From Saturday's Sun-Times:

But the joy can bring struggle, as Sox fans have learned all too well after a promising contention window featuring Tim Anderson, Yoan Moncada, Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert Jr. crashed and burned.

And this time around, the Sox’ highest profile hopes are still figuring it out. The team’s top-ranked prospect, left-handed Naperville native Noah Schultz, gave up six runs on eight hits and a walk in his 5 1/3 -inning debut at Charlotte on Thursday.

And a roller-coaster season for prized shortstop prospect Colson Montgomery has taken another dip as he’s batted .176 this month at Charlotte after a promising rebound from an early season slump that prompted Sox brass to yank him from the daily grind and work on his swing in Arizona.

I was thinking about all the bad draft choices the Sox have made lately and thought.....is the worst one Jacob Gonzalez? I ask that because he seemed to be a non prospect almost immediately after being drafted. What were they thinking with that pick?

It took like a week of him playing professionally for people to say he was a bust.  Never seen anything like it.

I wonder whether he's getting back onto the radar at all with his torpedo-fueled 138 wRC+ in the month of June and 118 wRC+ season.

On a related note, although Nick Madrigal kept a good bit of prospect hype through his promotion to MLB, I always found it strange that:

1. He was announced as a shortstop by the Sox on draft day

2. He made his professional debut as a shortstop

3. He never made another professional appearance at shortstop after that one minor league game

I don't think he was very likely to be even an above-average defensive MLB SS, but that's usually an "innocent until proven guilty" thing when a middle infielder moves through the minors.

Yeah, I was shocked how bad Gonzalez looked when I first saw him in Kanny. Has never been more than a borderline prospect from the minute he was drafted. But he went 1-15. Madrigal was 1-4. Gonzalez is a tool shed compared to Madrigal. He can at least play adequate ss, and might be a decent utility player.

I took heat on this board for unfavorably comparing Madrigal to Nicky Lopez. Turns out, he wishes he was Little Nicky.

Courtney Hawkins and then Jared Mitchell was never right again after his injury.

To be fair, Keenan Walker is probably the worst Sox top draft pick ever because the process was so bad.

Want to say he was like #47 overall that year

And the odd thing is that he was a real non-reach.  McDaniel of ESPN had him ranked #6.   I'm sill hoping he can hit, though.

For me it was Fulmer.  terrible delivery, which everyone acknowledged.    Never showed anything.

There were rumors Gonzalez was going 1-1
