I have learned things today. Thank you. Can't go to the 15 since there's no 26 man roster, can't go to the 60 unless you're replacing them on the 40 man

Organization continues to lead the world in TJS every year

Probably not.Every organization has this happen.

A team can only use the 60-day IL when they need to add a player. They can't just put a guy on the 60-day and be at 39 players.

I thought the whole idea of the 60 day IL/DL (when did they change the name and why, did Gatorade have a hand in this) was to take the guy off the 40man roster without burning an option or accruing service time. The team takes a risk that the player is healthy before 60 days, but that’s clearly not the case with Tommy John. Seemed to me like a very team-friendly thing.

I guess it’s practically the same thing, you don’t want an injured player taking up a spot when someone else could do it, and why stay at 39. I might be mistaken on the rule, but my thinking is this injury doesn’t affect Berroa’s standing with the team, it just puts it on pause for a year. Probably not ideal for him, but I’d like to see what he’s got.

Players aren't "disabled". They're injured. Scholtens has accrued a year's service time on the 60-day IL all last year.

No, he's on the 40-man. If he's not on the 26-man, they're burning an option.

That is false. An option is used when a player is demoted from the major league roster. Being placed on the IL is not a demotion

There's no regular IL right now because there's no 26-man rosters in effect. And the 10-day (15-day?) doesn't open any spot on the 40-man.

The 60 day removes player from 40 man roster. The sox do have players already on 60 day list currently

The 26-man is the major league roster. If one is on the 40-man, and is put on the 60-day, he burns service time without using an option.

Yeah I read that quote out of context. My mistake

Nobody said they didn't. They don't have players on the "15-day IL" because there's no 26-man roster to take players off from, yet.

Did not see it mentioned anywhere here, but according to Sox transactions page, they did bring Juan Carela back in a minors deal. Which is good news.

Including Larson and Bush, that's four.

Then Thorpe's situation is still a bit cloudy as well.

JR negotiated a volume discount.

Let's hope Martin Perez can come back from this current setback or the lack of starting depth down to the Big 3 starters in AAA is going to be terribly exposed...

That unfortunately didn't age well, looks like he's done for the year if they had to automatically move him to the 60 day IL.
