Elbow go boom(we knew)

Maybe Thorpe can go Henry Rowengartner style?  Have surgery, his tendons heal too tightly, and suddenly he’s throwing 100, rather than 92?

It always felt odd when he was so happy he was hitting 85

Yep, he sounds like someone kicked his dog.

Competitive baseball players often develop painful bone spurs in the elbow. The spurs compromise ability to throw and is often treated with arthroscopic surgery to remove them. Most players experience an encouraging initial recovery with return to high level throwing. However, a large percentage of players will go on to develop symptomatic tears of their medial collateral ligament (MCL) and require Tommy John Surgery to continue throwing at a high level.

Obviously I’m hoping it’s not a big deal, but if it is Tommy John, maybe it will actually help him add velo to his fastball.

TINSTAAPP.

All I'll say is given the Sox history with pitchers over the past few years this seemed inevitable as Thanos would say.

As someone pointed out the Sox first reported he would be ready to go for spring training, then it would be later in the spring to now this.

Typical White Sox. It would be better I think if they just didn't say anything or if they felt they had to with injuries let the doctors actually speak to the press not the field manager or the general manager or the clubhouse attendant 😆 or anybody else who really don't know s%*#.

Just have the TJS or whatever surgery is needed right now, stop dicking around and we'll see you next year (maybe...)

Injuries are going to happen. Before the White Sox are good again, there's a decent chance bigger names wind up under the knife. Hopefully they recover and become good MLB pitchers.

I hope he wasn't trying to rush the velocity and injured the UCL.

Just in time to get TJS next Spring Training.

Exactly. Stop screwing around with these guys 'hoping" rest and rehab will solve the issue. History shows at least with the Sox (hello Rodon, Dunning, Martin  et al) that doesn't seem to be working out.

It seems like just yesterday we were wondering about the competency of the Sox medical and training staff.

Thats true there no such thing as soreness and set backs from surgery.

It's not like the Astros have a pitcher who was shut down again after surgery in 2023 from a UCL reconstruction.

Only the Sox.

Sure. Who cares about the player their lives or opinions.

At least the Astros have had a lot of recent success to make up for this garbage.  We get s%*# on from all angles.

Thats a whole different topic on how players should be treated.

The list of issues and questions about the competency of those areas just gets longer it seems by the week doesn't it?

Hopefully when new ownership comes in they fire every individual connected with the baseball side of the operation. That's the only way to clean out the stink and ineptness in my opinion.

Let me ask you this. Was Thorpe under the supervision  of the medical staff or had he processed to the point that the pitching coaches had taken over?

What's a more positive possible prognosis? Could it be something like just working through some scar tissue

Possible. Also possible that there is still something in his motion that is causing the same irritation. Also possible it's some muscle soreness from throwing differently.

Those are the best.

The worst is that he was trying to ramp up to quickly and injured the UCL.

Could be anything in between. Unless you could examine the elbow there is no telling.

he'll be older than my youngest kid before he pitches again. get the surgery already. did i mention the sweetest kid

in the world is 37? god we suck.

So far, other than a couple minor trades and the Crochet trade, what Getz trade hasn’t aged poorly after looking good at the start?

This trade looked good at the start?

Nope. It always kinda felt like a salary dump.
