Counterpoint: Getz did develop the best players brought into the system, comprising a core that resulted in a two year run of playoff appearances. Many Player Development Directors have achieved less and went on to become General Managers.

By the time Getz came on board...most of that core other than maybe Crochet was already in place.

Vaughn and Madrigal have been failures.

Burger developed almost completely on his own...through sheer will power and perseverance.

name one. And lets face it, the 2020 playoff appearance was a farce. They expanded the playoffs that year, and at the time, 60 games into the season, the Sox were down to 2 starters. Anything resembling a real season, they were likely going to miss the playoffs. But it was a turnaround year.

Dave Dombrowski. He spent one year as Director of Player Development in Montreal before being appointed GM.

The rules were set for the 2020 season, then they made the playoffs. With a core that were partially developed under Getz. Then they went back to the playoffs in 2021.

Nobody needs to apologize for that.

Eloy,, Kopech, Cease, Robert. Those players still came through under Getz. Burger did not "develop almost completely on his own". Madrigal and Vaughn were both rushed through their "development". Many of the upper picks, like Pilkington, Steele Walker, Luis Gonzalez were traded before making their Chicago debuts. Davis Martin and Romy Gonzalez were right in the middle of Getz's period as director.

Doesn't Paddy deserve part of the credit then for Robert and Abreu that year...and basically playing the AL Central the majority of the time?

Burger had to force the White Sox to let him play in independent ball in St Louis against college and high school players.

Getz had nothing to do with him...he was basically written off for dead by the organization.

His wife honestly deserves more of the credit for not letting him quit in frustration.

Wow, so many success stories here. The Sox must have been really good the past couple of years.

Why would Paddy deserve credit for the White Sox being in the Central division?

Yeah, 2-5 with 0 series wins. Stellar.

Sure, but then don't turn around and declare victory on the prospect side of a trade that will need 4-6 years to be fully understood.  That would be the poster child of short-sighted.

Have I been doing this? If you mean the Crochet return, I don’t agree on that timeline. Those guys will be arb eligible by then. I don’t think I really declared victory on any that are that far away.

D. Staff hiring and clear change of direction from previous regime only thing saving an F.

Was an F- but the Crochet trade bumped it up to an F... Could be an F+ if he gets a top 75 for Robert

And if 2020 was the reason, why did the guys everyone is trying to blame get fired?

It’s way too fucking early to grade Getz, but gun to head I’d give him a C.  Too many posters are scoring based on his previous role and 2024 on-field results, but it’s the behind the scenes stuff that really matters.  Unfortunately, it will take some time before we can confirm if those changes will right the ship, but at least we know he’s making structural investments and bringing in outside voices in hopes of bringing us out of the Stone Age.  Also, the additions of Venable & McKinvin to the coaching staff are super exciting to me and a good sign that Getz has some sort of vision (or is able to sell people on one at least).

On the roster side of things, the results have been mixed.  I don’t get as worked up as others on the scrap heap signings.  They serve a purpose if they aren’t blocking a major league ready prospect and so far Getz has had some hits & misses, but that should be expected when shopping in the bargain bin.  The one obvious exception being Maldonado, who was a dumb signing from the get go.  The only meaningful FA he signed in Fedde was an absolute home run.  His pick up of Smith in the Rule 5 is looking super promising and he has done a decent job of grabbing talent off the waiver wire even if there haven’t been any huge hits yet.  In a constrained environment, he done an ok job here.

Unfortunately, his trades are trending the wrong way.  Fletcher & DeLoach look like busts.  Thorpe & Berrora are both injured.  Zavala & Iriarte both regressed.  S. Wilson demoted and unclaimed.  The Vargas deal will look light until we see some actual production out of him.  Not much left to be excited about with the Bummer trade.  The Crochet trade looks good on paper, so we got to hope that Getz is getting better with experience and/or has better pro scouts in place to support his decision-making.  Let’s definitely cross fingers there.

I think given what he started with he had a decent start. Yeah the team is bad but at least he created a top 5 farm system again.

Of course that was aided by some good contracts to trade that he inherited from the previous regime and a top 5 farm system is no guarantee as evidenced by the last rebuild when they also had a top 3-5 farm system but so far it at least is a start.

Obviously now he has to show that development and health of the upcoming players is better than last time. We will see in 1-2 Years.

D-.  Not clear how he's any better than Hahns last two years. The scouting feels the same to me. The results are even worse.

To be fair, he’s replaced a ton of the pro scouts over the course of the season last year.  He also rebuilt our Analytics department.  IMO, it’s just too early to evaluate him on player acquisition at this time.  As I said before, the trades last offseason are trending in the wrong direction, but we got to see if the structural investments pay off moving forward or if Getz is just bad at evaluating talent.

It's too early to assess. His lack of trade experience was evident with the Fedde/Kopech trade debacle. I still think he should have gotten more from the Dylan Cease deal as well. I was very encouraged from the Crochet deal. I think he executed that deal very nicely. He was patient and recieved a heck of a package. I agree with Jimmy. He needs to win a potential Luis Robert deal.

The organization was set back so far when they lost out on getting any sort of value back from the old original core players: Anderson, Moncada and Eloy. I do like the organizational infastructure changes. I hope Getz can utilize those changes and begin developing talent from within. He needs a really strong draft performance in 2025 and 2026. If i had to guess, he will likely have a top 5 to choose from in 2026. I know it goes beyond the first round, as he also needs to hit on 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounders as well. This is where I hope the scouting department changes can be demonstrated.

I think it will be fair to evaluate Getz after the 2026 season. At that point, we should know how strong the farm system is getting and will have a true understanding of the direction of this ball club. It sucks we have to wait another 2-3 years, but this organization was set so far back by the previous regime- this needed to be done. (sigh!)

Getz traded Cease and Crochet. As of now the White Sox don't have one member on their roster who they received from those trades. I've requested an interview in the past  with JR to be the White Sox GM. I think I could have done a better job trading Cease and Crochet than what Getz  did.

Definitely better on Cease Fedde Kopech Santos and Mena (McCarthy over Fletcher).

Almost nothing to show for Bummer deal but wasted money/resources.

No return on Soroka.

Doing better on Crochet means one of Anthony CF Campbell 2B  Mayer SS.  Period. Three premium Top 12-15 MiLB position prospects.

  • 121 Loses in a season
  • Achieved the worst record in MLB history over 162 games
  • Does not seem to give 2 flying F's about the upcoming season and winning games
  • Lied to the fans when he 1st took over when he kept saying the sox can contend because of the division.  Now his team maybe in the best division in baseball excluding the SOX
  • Has put together at 25 season roster that could be worse then the 24 season roster
  • Has gone on various media outlets taking victory laps about the structure he has created within the  organization.  Nothing of that structure has come to fruition yet.
  • Has not spent over $100 mil for a free agent
  • Gave away Dylan Cease for a guy who had Tommy John and throws 87mph on his best day
  • Seems to be content with losing

I can keep going.......

This dude can go F himself and what he pretends to represent

Careful, you're going to summon all the posters who are going to say the White Sox were never trying to win and the pencil pushers he has hired are going to change the world, you just wait for 3-4 years you'll see.
