The Lenyn Sosa Thread

Recommended Posts

Sosa has quietly been a pretty solid player, especially at the plate.  His defense still leaves a bit to be desired, but he'll likely get better with regular exposure at 2B.  The Sox have three of the four IF positions covered for a while.  First base is still up in the air.  Elko is better than Vaughn but neither are going to give you a decent BA.

92 wRC+ now. Funny thing is his iso is only .123. I bet if he stays healthy he ticks that up over .150 by year's end. I'm thinking 270/290/420.

He's why you play some of the internal guys.  He gives you for the minimum salary, what we keep paying $3-5 million on the free agent market for worse production.

Not being able to find 1 WAR players whenever we've had the stars has been bugging this franchise the entire time I've been a fan. For a long time it was 3B. Now it's RF, granted at the moment we ain't anywhere close to having stars either.

For the time being...pencil  Vargas 3b, Meidroth SS, Sosa 2B, Elko 1B, and Vaughn DH.

Elko is an athletic defender at 1B with a long reach, good arm and great hands. He stays if he hits home runs at a decent pace.  Speaking of Elko someone I know thinks that, head on, he reminds them of Travis Kelce.

I did think that about Elko at 1B. Give your IF's a regular sized 1B to throw to haha

Body type, I thought Pete Alonso. Turns out, they're the same height and close to same weight.

Keep Vaughn at 1B.  Let him be the first to get injured in the field instead of Elko.  😈

Stone commented yesterday that in prior years, pitching was the most sought after commodity in baseball, but now "power" is.  I share that view with him.  Yankees figured that out long ago, maybe a real long time ago.

If Elko isn't sent down he might be the White Sox HR leader in another 3 weeks . Vargas currently leads with 6. Elko in (what's it been , 2 weeks ?) has 3.

Robert hasn't hit one since May 2nd or 1 HR in his last  63 PA covering his last 17 games.

Elko's hit 3 HR in his last 29 PA covering his last 9 games and in 1 of those games he only had 1 PA.

Vaughn has 3 HRs since April 20th covering 29 games  and 115 PA.

LH power in Yankee stadium is even better. Also figured that out a long time ago.

The White Sox, never known for being a hitting or HR hitting franchise have had some of the worse, if not the worst, LH hitting as a franchise in baseball history. It might explain why they didn't win very much either along with cheap owners.

That was KW to a tee from 2000-2012...power-based/high scoring games and much more "entertainment value" than what we've all witnessed from 2022-25.

2000-2001 2003-2006 2008 2010-12 in particular.

That’s what needs to be done, keep guys at their best position instead of constantly playing musical chairs, do this for an extended period and see what happens. I’m still not sure where Vargas should be, probably at 3rd with maybe Teel at first with Quero and Lee doing the catching. Noda is at .095 BA and isn’t the answer at first base.
I think that an infield of Vargas-Meidroth- Sosa-Teel going forward is promising. It’s the outfield that needs help.

I was interested to see Sosa mentioned in another thread as a surprise trade candidate. I, for one, have a feeling that he's a better long term option at 2B than Meidroth.

With Colson looking like a potential bust, I’d rather see Meidroth continue to play SS with Sosa at 2B.

Sosa definitely does not need to be playing first base. As far as playing second, if he could cut down on his errors he could certainly be useful there.

I am happy to see the progress Vargas is making and hoping the same for Sosa. The Sox need to be patient with Sosa to see what they can get out of him. Eduardo Escobar always comes to mind on a late bloomer that had decent success after hitting 25 years old.
