There’s hope for Thorpe after all

When we traded for Thorpe, the first guy i thought of was Paddack.

Paddack throws harder, but he was a guy with an 80 grade change but limited secondaries and a flat fastball.

I liked Paddack. I learned my evaluation lesson with him as it relates to elite change ups (unique too) but limited other offerings.

Someone wearing a D'Angelo Jimenez jersey in the crowd lol.

Impression of Twins' broadcasters is that Venable's team will at least battle their butts off against you.

More professionals on the team.

Ishbia must have known something not buying the Twins lol.

At least for one week he's right.

He really lost something off his fastball crispness with all the injuries.

And his Sheriff nickname confidence.

Completely different pitcher five years ago in terms of his presence on the mount.

Has nothing to do with the White Sox, but i like to put starts in perspective.

Devers is 0-19 with 15 strike outs.

Something deeper going on there like the aversion of Jimenez and Abreu to the DH position.

Perez is solid. The k's are surprising, but he knows how to get big leaguers out with lesser stuff and has made a career of it. He'll finish around a 4.4 ERA as he has most of his career.

Or he was targeted for 2 reasons, Cost and Bannister likes him. I know you don't like coaches acting as scouts but I'm giving Bannister a lot of leeway. The guy is a pitching scientist

Their projection is for about 50 wins. If they shock the world, they'd lose less than 100 games. No matter how you cut it, this team will be very bad.

They will be bad; but the pitching might prevent them  from being "very" bad.

I predicted 63 because a)I thought the pitching would be average and b) I've seen worse rosters than the 2024 Sox win in the 50s.  That roster winning in the 40s was a fluke, abetted by several players who did not want to be there and Pedro.

Belief/confidence is also a very powerful thing.

Lol Bannister isn't targeting Perez. He is who he is and isn't being "fixed."

I still am not really sold on the bullpen so I'm hesitant to really change anything about my expectations.

While I agree last year was a fluke - they led baseball in blown saves despite the fewest opps - this team is arguably worse on paper. Paper doesn't mean anything, but the fact you can argue that isn't a glowing endorsement for the group.

On paper the lineup looks worse; and there's no Fedde or Crochet in the rotation.

Still, I think they will hit better (although still likely #30) and pitch better than last year.   And until we have some interesting OF prospects (like Teel perhaps when he's not catching)  I kind of like this "100% Defense" OF motif (at least when Bene DHs).

So if the Sox pull Perez, they will have been the first team in MLB history to have their starters give up 0 runs in the first four games of a season.

What a crazy sport this game is.

I was misled. They are now the 4th team to have done this. Meaning smith needs to do it tomorrow to set some records solo.

They matched the record today but this team are record setters not matchers.

They probably have more homers through 4 games than they had through like 15 last year. (I have not looked this up).

The ball went in the opposite direction of the runner though

"No fielder has to have a direct path to the ball. The runner has to make the adjustment just like he's out if he gets hit by a groundball or line drive"

Really think dumping Pedro will keep the tean from 110+ losses. They could have kept Sizemore

and still been better. I've never seen a guy like him before. Even worse than Terry Bevington. You

almost have to admire someone so incompetent AND arrogant about it.

Academic when Smith throws a nought tomorrow.

Really don't want to say too much here but something something about Brewers SP so either he gets lit up like a Christmas Tree  or he does what you said.

1st thought was he gets lit up because recognizing fate type patterns but then he's not a Brewer no more so change of destiny ?

Sometimes I like to delve into existential thoughts, without drugs too. 😉
