A third of the Chicago market is larger than the entire Nasville metro area. The moment JR is no longer the controlling partner the entire fanbase will be instantly invigorated. There is no greater untapped market than right here. Ishba has to see the goldmine he'd be acquiring. As jaded as the Sox fan base is, if the Sox suddnely start operating like a modern large market team under new ownership, it won't take long for the fans to buy in. I honestly believe that.

What you believe will happen is just that, a belief. You make some well-intentioned presumptions like one billionaire sees a goldmine and therefore will acquire and operate a baseball franchise like you think it should be operated.  I assume, that would be  laying out hundreds of millions towards future player contracts....maybe land the next Ohtani beating out the Yanks and Dodgers.  Maybe outspend the Cubs and outdraw the Cubs.  Unfortunately you cannot be sure we can assume that this billionaire, a private equity specialist,  is less greedy than the billionaires that currently control the team. Based on what I see, I think it is quite the opposite. Multiple choice question: Who built a 66,760 square foot mansion in that White Sox fan bastion on the North shore, Winnetka, IL  for $70 Million:

a. Joe Ricketts  b. Warren Buffet  c. Donald Trump d. Jerry Reinsdorf  e. Justin Ishbia f. Mellody Hobson

Doesn’t Jerry Reinsdorf live in that other White Sox fan bastion called Highland Park, just 10 minutes away from Winnetka?

For real. You act like because he didn't build in Hinsdale or Burr Ridge that he doesn't want to own a south side team.

GMAFB

i dont know about nowadays but for years Jerry R was walking into the pharmacy at Clark & Division CVS to get his prescriptions. my buddy was the fill tech there.

i guess said buddy had the power to singlehandedly bring the change we wanted, but alas, he's a cubs fan.

I’m sure Reinsdorf has numerous properties in the Chicagoland area, and probably still does.  Maybe he stays at a property closer to the park during the season for a quick commute?

Even before he got a place in Highland Park, he had a home in Northfield that he sold in 2020…

But basically, yeah, Tray’s post about where Ishbia decided to live doesn’t really mean much of anything.

Where of course and  how and what.  The estate reminds one of the excesses of Trump's Mar-a-Lago.

And then there was a bit of billionaire bully boy involved. Fvk this guy .

Unfortunately, haven't had a kind and benevolent US real estate developer since Jimmy Stewart in It's a Wonderful Life.

But maybe he brings his excessive spending to the team as well?

lol I can't imagine any reason why anyone would defend Reinsdorf and not want a new owner and then there's tray.

Jerry is one of the richest, most ruthless, and successful real estate developers in the history of Chicago,  who parlayed that success into convincing other people to pay for a vast majority of the White Sox so he could operate them as his own vanity project.  If a guy like Justin Ishbia has a playbook, it’s because a guy like Jerry wrote every page for him.  If you demonize Ishbia, you accidentally demonize Jerry, because they are the same person, doing the same things to get and stay rich.

Let’s all remember there was a small one person movement a few months ago to change this team to a packers “fan owned” model.

just thought that should be mentioned here no reason why

No more south side identity

I'm pretty sure Nashville has a vibrant south side.

Jerry Reinsdorf's father was a sewing machine salesman. Ishbia and his brother were nepo babies. The Sox don't need another greedy billionaire owner. Instead they need new management that, among other things, begins  signing high priced talent. It's never too early to start doing that.

You do realize that when a franchise is worth $2 billion, that any owner, by definition, will be a greedy billionaire owner, right?

Wanting them to sign high priced talent and wanting Jerry to be the owner severely contradicts one another.

Apparently, the very same owner who worked the “sweetheart deal” regarding taxpayer funding for his ballpark in which he he pays minimal rent while keeping all revenue from ticket sales, parking, concessions, and merchandise isn’t a greedy billionaire…

It’s not even worth arguing with that sewing machine salesman/nepo baby nonsense.  Absolute garbage

I hate threads with potentially relevant information keeps getting hijacked with nonsense.

What makes no sense is how someone would want Jerry Reinsdorf to stay the owner over literally anyone else.  Makes me think it’s all just one big disturbing attempt to troll everyone for his own jollies.

And it quite literally playing from the exact same playbook again 35 years later, but somehow this is different.  It is so completely absurd.

None of which bothers him, unless it's that dastardly private equity. Then its the most abominable evil known to mankind.
