Some of the guys down in the minors, I'm excited for, honestly. The Schultz/Smith/Taylor group has the potential to be one of the best in baseball if they can stay healthy. Past that, it's a franchise which really lacks star ceilings. He appeared to come up lame when he was running on the bases in the first inning. Losing Benintendi for any stretch of time would be a significant hit to an already thin Sox lineup. Nick Maton replaced Benintendi at the DH spot in the lineup. Benintendi was in a good stretch, batting .290/.333/.484 with a .817 OPS. Last year, the Sox lost former third baseman Yoan Moncada and designated hitter Eloy Jimenez to adductor tightness. How long Benintendi is out depends on the severity of the tightness. Imagine if the White Sox were in the AL/NL East or West. We'd basically be looking at the same fate as the Rockies or Marlins, minus the almost incomprehensible fan support out in Denver (see Chicago Bulls' attendance.) After a 121-game losing season, next to nothing was done to improve this team. I don't expect Dodger-like money to be spent, but something should have been done. It’s not that they tried to improve, they were made significantly worse. The scary thing about all of this is there are really no assets to trade to acquire more talent.
