Why not Teel/Quero?

 1 year= 172 days on roster

Last game=Sept 28th

April 10th-Sept 28th= 171 days.

Get the extra year starting tomorrow unless I screwed it up.

 

Edit: I would really hope it's not because they'd surely reach Super 2 status. Sox can't be that cheap. I mean they can but.

Just to be clear, tomorrow is the first day you can call someone up and get the extra year of team control.  Hopefully Meidroth is on a flight up tomorrow for a revenge series with the Red Sox.

I'm fine with Narvaez being called up for now.  Depending on how long Lee is out, we could see Teel/Quero sooner rather than later.  My guess is Thaiss gets most of the starts with Narvaez going against LH pitchers.

Maybe they call up Omar for a day to let him retire as a Palehose.

you want to lose a year of control over Quero or Teel for just ONE game in April this year when we're already out of any race...?

Of course not. But I don't want Omar Narvaez as a long term roster option either. 

 

Also, if we're going to base our call ups on if we're in the race or not, we're never calling any prospects up.

 

I'm sure we can figure out some way to not have to add Omar to the 40 man, and not blow any control.

It doesn't appear they'd lose 1 year control by calling up today. Unless someone has a better grip for the rules than me.

Well...then they're not yet convinced calling up Teel or Quero to debut on the road in freezing weather against a playoff team is a great idea as of yet.

Quero's the one who would get promoted today...based on recent hitting numbers.

There is an open 40 man spot*. Narvaez will likely be on the roster for a week until Quero gets the call. Getz deserves all the hate, but calling up Quero today would be insanely stupid. Like he doesn't understand how the rules work stupid. 

*space may have to be made today because Tauchman going to IL I assume and we have no other OFs on 40 man.

Ugh, hate to see Carela go, but this is what the roster management combined with 6 TJSs does to you.  Hopefully he got a nice injury settlement and we can get him back.

Whats the reasoning for a release? Why not 60 day DL? I assume he was on 40.

You'd have to put him on the 40-man, pay him more, and start his 6-year clock. The straight release looks like they'd have a better shot at resigning him to a minor league deal than putting him through waivers. If they have a good working relationship with him, maybe he doesn't want a new rehab team and a bunch of unknowns after that.

Because he would take up a roster spot over the winter, when he may not effectively pitch again until 2027, with a late spring 2025 surgery.  The 2025 season is 100% gone.  If he has an 18 month recovery, instead of a 12, he also misses the entire 2026 season, and then you again have to decide how to roster him over that winter without him throwing a pitch in a live baseball situation since 2024.

Wow. This roster has gone from awful to indescribable. I sincerely don’t understand Palacios and Narvaez. I mean, Quero has to be added to the 40 man at the end of the year anyway, and so does Meidroth. I guess they are protecting themselves against Super 2, but if either of them perform to that level, the Sox should be happy.

Wouldn't they have  to remove another player from 40 man to make room for both Palacios and Narvaez?

Yeah, I bet Carela is back on a MiLB deal.
