Prematurely busting is the only thing I’m good at.

Join the club.  🤣

I just get annoyed by the trade deadline waiting every year, so I just try to forget about it until July 31st.  It’s so lame how most teams wait until the very last minute.  Wouldn’t acquiring additional players early also help you win more games prior to August?  So annoying…

Sox liked Gilbert before, could definitely see a package of him and a prospect in the 12-18 range being the best offer they get.  Safe to say the Mets were one of the two teams trying to get him last week.

Get Benge from NYM

I think that’s too big a return, although it would be awesome.

This is what I was going to post.  Gilbert and a lesser prospect.  Getz thinking he’s getting back a top prospect but realistically one that has seen his stock decline and is aging out of prospect status.  Reminds me of Vargas.

And no way Robert is signing that deal.

Yep.  Every extension he suggests is team friendly.  Meanwhile, the fact that Robert switched to Boras alone indicates that he would never sign an extension like this.  It’s just not what Boras does.  He’ll either hope Robert stays hot and somehow a team picks up his $20 million dollar option or if he finishes with a mediocre to bad season, he’ll take the $2 million buyout and try to find a team that will throw 1-year and $15 million at him and play for a big contract after 2026.

Maybe he just wants to keep the team together through the Cub series and is bluffing to see if he can get an extra DSL arm, or something.

Or it isn't. As I've said, it's a strange, in-between number that wouldn't satisfy either party.

The question was My preference, not Robert.

I'm certainly not picking on you. I could see Robert shitting the bed the rest of the season and taking 2/20 with a player opt out after the 1st year, or 4/40 with opt outs after the first 3 years. Jeez, Bergman has what, 3/120? And he has an opt out to retry the market, because he's betting on himself, and he might just do better.

The reason being that if Robert doesn't think he can be a guy who commands 10/300 +, then he probably isn't, and they can get that cheaper on year-to-year deals.

Extending a player with diminished skills is not fantasy.  You can drop the attitude.

For as low as 2-years and $20 million, it most definitely is, which would be an extension within your proposed range.  Once again, the new agent Robert hired in January 2024 doesn’t negotiate within your team friendly preferences.  Try to read the tea leaves.  It’s right in front of your face and you are missing it.

You don’t hire Boras and then take a deal that’s potentially team friendly. Period. If a team buys him out, he’s taking likely a 1-year, highest possible AAV deal to rebuild value.

Gilbert wouldn't be a bad headliner even though his star has dimmed a bit after his hamstring injury. If he can stick in center that would be solid. Maybe also get Ewing too who would be a surefire CF.

I would be excited about that package considering how Robert has been for most of the year.
