A Robert return is going to look gross compared to dreams of what they could get 2 years ago. But good riddance.

Should have traded him the moment they entered the rebuild.

4 years of a RH DH/1B is garbage.

A RH DH/1B even one with some power is a low value commodity and can be easily bought on the market cheaply.

We already got one last year with Vargas. Wasn't Getz criticism of the prior FO that they acquired too many corner bat only types with no defensive or athletic floor?

Hypocrite.

A right handed bat only player that is struggling to even hit is more or less tantamount to a disabled person.

NO

Dude, their entire draft was shortstops. You've convinced me that the only way forward as a franchise is to acquire Vientos.

Veni, Vidi, Vientos.

We need CF prospects that have a reasonable chance to stick there, are very close to MLB ready that also have some value at the plate  and are gettable for Robert.

Fortunately, the Mets have one to trade but we're dicking around with Andrew Vaughn types again.

They may not want to give that up though.

Hopefully the Mets refuse to part with Vientos now and we can dodge that bullet.

I hope it is Vientos. The dude was legit good in 2024 and mashed in the actual playoffs. I think it's a better return than what they ultimately could end up with unfortunately. The Sox need power.

That type of prospect doesn’t exist for robert

Yep.  If Chris knew all along this was a project,  literally his first mistake was not taking the best offer on Robert at his peak.

We need a CF or left handed power for our park. Vientos provides neither.

Robert isn’t going to bring back something like that.  As for Gilbert, he’s very overrated on here.

You aren't going to be able to be picky in a Robert return. He's not a substantial asset anymore. You take the best you can get at this point.

It’s going to go down as one of the biggest mistakes of this regime. You held onto an absolute diamond asset and you got two 100 loss seasons and a bag of balls in return when all said and done.

I'm not asking for a big asset. A prospect somewhere close to 10th best plus or minus a few spots in a system isn't a huge asset.

Same thing with PHI. I would take Nori as a headliner...thats an interesting prospect and good fit for us.

The guys I've been talking about aren't being picky.

We all know we aren't getting any of NYM top 5-6 prospects and we know we aren't getting any of PHI top 3.

I just don’t agree with this. In hindsight, absolutely. Trading 4 years of Robert coming off that season would’ve been tough to do imo.

I just don’t think this player exists at this deadline. I wouldn’t be surprised if they take pitching in return. They need to take the best talent offered.

Betting on Luis Robert's health has always been stupid.

What would you have needed in return for him coming off his 2023 season?

You are way to caught up in this single detail and entirely missing the big picture.

Coming off of the complete collapse of this rebuild and throwing the old regime under the bus to do it, Getz walked into what we are now being told is a complete disaster which had no other outcome other than long term collapse of the franchise, (despite claiming that Getz was lying to everyone when he claimed the Sox could compete quickly,  which is the valid reason to hold on to Robert,) with an asset at its peak in a franchise circling the drain.  An asset now that we are told has been lazy and doesn't listen to coaching.  An asset that has had injury problems since he was signed at 18.  This under a GM who was supposed to not need time figure it out, because he already knew everything about the players in the organization.

And despite all of this, we are supposed to focus on "value", despite Getz having access to all of this insider information knowing full well that if he stayed some combination of injury prone, lazy, and uncoachable, he wasn't going to get any kind of a return for Robert anyway?  If Chris Getz was really more worried about the PR of "value" versus what was best for this franchise long term, he should quit his job and find something safer for his level of cowardice.

Teams were going to back up the truck for a healthy and cheap 2023 Luis Robert.  Take the best offer, reload,  and use it to move the rebuild forward. The Sox got massive returns for players in similar situations in the last rebuild.  If these guys were half as smart as we are told, they should have been fine.

Hard for a team to come up with enough back then, I think we all kinda landed there.

Moving forward, I think maybe you just keep him for the long haul.  His D will play elite for a long time and he’s got insane power.  Overpay for Schwarber & Alonso, and Robert’s bat becomes all bonus.

We won’t do that though so I dunno. Probably still wouldn’t trade him.

Yeah I understand this in hindsight. I don’t actually believe that they should’ve traded him in the real world after 2023 though. I can’t get there.
