Dick Allen
9 minutes ago, CaliSoxFanViaSWside said: I'd say the board is split. More than a few here want to pick up his option. Throwing good money after bad if you ask me. There's literally a very small percent chance that Robert actually stay healthy and be good enough to get him traded for more than he'd get right now. He's actually healthy ish and hot now. He might not be either later. We've been getting typical Robert July teasing us with flashes of hitting and consistent high level fielding while being injured the 1st week of July and now missing a few days with his adductor strain . The MLBtraderumors comment section has Mets fans bashing the hell out of Robert, JR. While Sox fans bash the Sox management because it's just another opportunity to bash them because the light hitting IF Luisangel Acuna of the Mets was talked about among others as if Getz already accepted that trade. We reserve the right to say Robert sucks and isn't worth anything. But when you might get back crap for a player who sucks you blame Getz preemptively. 🤣 I understand the concept of picking up his option, but if they don't trade him and he's not spectacular the rest of the season, JR isn't picking it up. He doesn't like paying good players. He certainly isn't going to give $20 million to a question mark if he can easily avoid it. 4

I get what you're saying, but he also literally did this for a bad Craig Kimbrel just a couple of years ago. The better argument would be that he doesn't want to do this again if he can avoid it, but I still don't think I can say that with certainty.

Since when are players who can't hit for 2 years and injured all the time worth $20M ? With that salary & his frequent major and minor health issues there's almost zero chance you can make a decent trade next year. You're not paying him $20M to lead you to the World Series. You're only paying him for a better trade which again is nearly impossible . Edited July 30 by CaliSoxFanViaSWside

He's paying Benintendi $17 million and the rest of the payroll is small. Maybe Robert's salary can be some of the debt that Ishbia is paying down, LOL. The Sox had just given up their first round pick in Madrigal and a good setup man in Heuer for Kimbrel. They also thought they were still in their competitive window but already had Hendriks for the closer spot. Kimbrel was a bust so they tried to recoup some value by swapping him for a position of need — a starting RF in Pollock. It’s not like the Sox thought they would be terrible in 2022 and picked up Kimbrel’s option to trade him for prospects. Things have drastically changed since then.

Sure things have drastically changed in Hahn vs. Getz. But Jerry is making the final decisions when it comes to contracts and handing out millions of dollars, and you can't convince me otherwise. 1
WestEddy
I’m told the Mets are still speaking to other clubs about adding an ADDITIONAL bullpen arm. And they still want, and will almost certainly get, a center fielder. David Stearns is finally being ultra-aggressive in getting the Mets the pieces they need for a World Series. — Michael Marino (@MarinoMLB) July 30, 2025

GreenSox
Trading Robert at a deep discount sets a bad precedent. I get the sense that Getz has a hard enough time getting serious offers from some of these GMs; selling him low will make that worse in the long run. Don’t do it. Re the option, is picking up Robert’s option the best place to spend $18 million? If so, pick it up; if not, spend the $$ elsewhere.

Then they quoted me a different time before they said they never in fact had our order. It was this big ordeal. I criticized them on twitter. Ever since then, there's a group of fine folks on twitter who have harassed me about Chilis and some had yelled it in person at games etc. I doubt this is accurate and I'm pretty sure it's some sort of homage to me on that fine day. 5 1
