I have no idea, but it would indicate there may have been something there if they said the Blue Jays were discussing Houser and then they actually do end up trading for a starting pitcher.

If it was someone other than the food accounts I would agree with you.
July 31, 2025Jul 31 Seems like there is never a good time to trade Robert. I think he stays ala Moncada and the option is quitely declined on a Friday afternoon in a couple months.
July 31, 2025Jul 31 They're probably going to have to package Robert with Houser/Civale to get anything worthwhile. They just screwed up by not trading him last year. The only reason why there isn't more outrage is because Jed is back to being Jed - got his extension and is playing things safe again. Just the way Ricketts loves it. For them not to end up with two legit starters and closers, is a huge failure IMO.

That seems to be the plan.

You trade him for ANYTHING if this is the plan.

Since 2023, the White Sox are 142-291. In that same stretch, the Rockies are 148-284. Piss off.

That said, I won't be mad if I get to continue watching Luis because while many have soured on him here, he's still the most exciting player on this team by a mile. I'd be okay with this as long as the Sox realized that Luis Robert is not Shohei Ohtani or Juan Soto - guys who can change the lineup all by themselves. Robert needs protection. If you're going to actually invest in the lineup, I'm happy to keep Robert here. He's still great defensively and he would be cheap relatively speaking. With that stated, beyond getting him legit hitters in the lineup, get a whole new medical staff. I mean, tear the whole staff down to the studs. I want no holdovers.
July 31, 2025Jul 31 @fathom, do u have any info as to what NYM has actually offered us? The Tong ask is obviously not realistic at all but I'd be interested to know what kinds of things have been offered? Are the Sox even interested in Clifford?

Yes, the plan where they traded for Kimbrel and he was dreadful so they picked up the option expecting to flip him for something to recoup their value and ended up just swapping him out for another high priced bad player.

It's interesting you use the word "holdovers" because I've used the same word in thinking about Robert. I agree with the overall idea trading him JUST to trade him doesn't really do much for anyone, I can live with holding onto him if teams are offering their 16th best prospect. However, I do think there is something to the idea of Robert being the last "representative" from the core of the last regime, and getting him out of the organization sort of "turns the page" on that chapter. Can't be measured, and kind of a meatball take honestly, but I do think there is something to that. And I'm not accusing Robert of being a bad clubhouse guy or a bad influence, but with the positive play coming from Colson, Teel, Quero, etc....just feels like it's time.
July 31, 2025Jul 31 Who’s excited for the deadline to pass, and we have people saying trades can still be announced, only for someone like Russell Dorsey to tweet that the Sox are done.
July 31, 2025Jul 31 If the Sox traded Robert, do you really think JR is going to spend the $20 millions Aveda next year on other players? He's been tighter than my poop chute in recent years so I have no confidence in that happening. Therefore, as a fan, if the offers aren't good, I'm fine for holding on to him and hope he rebuilds his value.

Did I throw up reading posts? Uh, no. You all can feel however you want to feel. I wish I could just enjoy the game the same way I did when I was a kid, but I can't. I have different standards as an adult. The older I get, the more valuable my time becomes and the more expensive sports have become. I don't like investing time and energy into things that aren't investing into themselves. I watch for the players, and of course I'm happy to see Colson raking and Teel doing well! I root for every player that comes up because I am a pro-player fan. Problem is, the White Sox position player leader in WAR is Mike Tauchman, and then Sosa who most discredit and ridicule constantly (even the ones that are optimist). But calling people doom and gloom for citing facts is just obnoxious imo. When you're the second worst team in baseball coming off the worst season in MLB history, it shouldn't be surprising to anyone that there's more negative than positive stuff to talk about.

July 31, 2025Jul 31 wouldn't he have been more valuable if they picked up the option now, before the deadline? and maybe eat some or all of it to get a better return?

I think Robert is a good enough player to keep around. He's also been a good soldier, especially factoring in that he was expecting to compete for years and the team has been bad. I think Robert is the type that would be very good on a strong team - hence, if you're not going to commit to improving the team around him, don't bother not trading him. I think he would fit well with the Padres and Dodgers.
July 31, 2025Jul 31 Just got a wonderful ESPN notification that the Sox appear unlikely to trade Robert now.

Padres are an option, but they're moreso looking for a power bat (they have the 2nd least HRs in the majors behind the Pirates). The Phillies were a legit option, and with the Phillies completing their trade, the Mets offer went lower. Padres don't have the prospect match the Sox want. So unless they get creative (Suarez gets moved to the Sox who flip him), Robert is staying.
