The speed and defense alone makes him a + WAR guy no matter what. Need to be more consistent with the bat.

Anyone who thinks Tony LaRussa brought anything positive to this organization this time around is truly derranged.

  • I may be in the minority but I have no issue with them keeping Luis. They have nothing committed to payroll next year and no one knocking at the door to be an every day CFer. Also, I would consider ke

  • Oh no. Chris Getz maybe asked for a desirable target in trade negotiations. It's truly unfortunate dialogue ends completely after one player is inquired about.

I wouldn’t be so sure. He was worth all of 0.5 fWAR last season and so far this season he’s at -0.1 fWAR.

Things will normalize at 54 games if he's still healthy...largely because of the defense and base stealing.

He was injured for a chunk of last season.

Pages is really struggling for the Dodgers in the early going...we shall see.

They're not going to overeact to SD and SF getting off to strong starts when they believe AZ might be their stiffest competition.

Have to just hope Pages keeps sucking at the plate and Robert starts hitting.  The Dodgers could still always just stick with Edman as their primary CF but it’s pretty apparent that they want to keep him in a utility role.

Plus the days of Taylor playing CF everyday are long behind him...leaving Kik-e as the only other choice.

Trading with the Dodgers is right up there with trading with the Royals - don't.

The Dodgers recognize good scouting and can fleece one that has poor scouting. See Vargas

We should be in no rush here anyways. Wait until mid summer.

That’s not unusual for him. Is he injured this season too?

If Robert is healthy and playing well, wouldn't any contender from a larger market be interested? The Dodgers have a loaded farm system, but our last attempt to get talent resulted in Vargas, an injured IF and another middle of the road prospect who we will never hear from again.

So far, Robert, outside of the Boston game on Saturday, looks awful. It's also 15 games into the season and April. A lot can change by June. It's just hard to see the White Sox getting a multiple high end prospects back for Robert. If they get a team's top #10 prospect and another in the top #20, I think that's the extent of it. Basically a couple of lottery tickets that may improve the overall depth of the organization, but probably don't much else.

Both big “ifs”

Right and this is a point that many refused to accept last offseason. I continually pointed out that it wasn’t just health that was a concern with Robert now, it was also performance after a bad 2024 campaign. The start to this season has done nothing to alleviate that concern either. We saw the same thing happen with Moncada, where even when he was healthy he just wasn’t that good anymore towards the end of his Sox career.

At some point injuries, especially leg injuries, take a huge toll on an athlete.  Baseball is a sport where you need your legs for everything you do

I don't think he's had much if any athleticism sapped, he looked plenty alive on the basepaths in Boston. I just think he hasn't put the time in to recognize how he's being attacked and what adjustments he needs. He just doesn't seem like a guy that wants to work on stuff outside the gym.

I think this is what happened to Yoan and TA.  They just have none of the explosiveness and fast twitch that they had when they came into the game.  I do wonder if it is because they played through injuries.

Nope, in the top six percentile for both bat speed and sprint speed.  As I mentioned in a previous post, his current year results are down because his launch angle has been fucked up.  He’s been barreling balls pretty well and has career best performances so far in chase rate and walk rates (his biggest problems in the past) along with an improved K rate.  I know it’s fun to overact to small sample sizes, but the underlying data suggests his offense will regress to the norm at some point.

What is the norm for him?  I still don't know that

Moncada has long Covid and lost a lot of power.  Not even remotely comparable situations.

He literally worked on a Trajekt machine all offseason and his chase rate is currently at a career best.

A low OBP, but high ISO hitter who is 20% to 25% above league average as a hitter and who can play a quality CF.

it's been 15 games. people need to really stop over reacting to small sample sizes and confirmation bias. Same with the Sheets reactions.

You literally said he doesn’t work on anything outside of the job.  I’m pointing out that he has been using technology previously not provided to him to address his major weakness during the offseason.  Whether the results stick in another matter, but the core point that he’s trying to improve holds true.

well last year he didn't know the coaches' names so yea. I hope he's improved. time will tell.

And if Sheets is still hitting this well at the end of May?

Isn't the most salient point here if the athlete himself totally believes in the changes he's made?

Even 15 games is sufficient to confirm the team enjoys playing more for Venable/Santos than Grifol.
