1.5 million and he gets to go sit and home and jerk off instead of doing any work. I can't stress enough what a moronic signing this way. You bring back a guy 99.995% of the fanbase can't stand, and o

Surprise, nobody wanted this bum just like nobody wanted Clevinger for the past two years.

In fact, this single thread has two transactions with three players that the White Sox DFA’ed that no other team claimed (Wilson and Anderson) and that no other team will claim shortly (Clevinger).

Getz is such an offseason wizard.

So, every time a player clears waivers, a GM should be fired? LOL.

Just on the pitching side.  Resigning Austin Slater is top priority on the offensive FA side again.  🤣

Did I say he should be fired for that?

The point is that Getz just signed these guys over the offseason for $1 to $1.5 million, they have barely pitched for the team, and he has already DFA’ed all three of them.  Sure, that’s a minimal amount of money for a one year deal but it all adds up to waste.  It also shows that not one other team in the MLB values adding any of these guys to their roster over the pitchers they already have.

At least for Clevinger, I am willing to give Getz a break if the ownership insisting on his signing is true.  Though that tells me that Getz doesn't really have nearly as much power for CHANGE as we are being led to believe.

You're making a silly defense of a silly meme. Depending on the player, if they're DFAed at the right time, the other 29 teams are dealing with roster issues, and don't have the luxury of taking on a project. If nobody is sure whether a pitcher is healthy, I wouldn't say that player has "no value" (where do you come up with this stuff?). Very few teams are at the sweet spot where they have a roster gap and can afford to risk a roster spot on somebody to get a full picture of their health situation.

True, but while Hahn spent $12 million on Clevinger, he at least got decent starter production out of him in 2023.  Getz has now spent $4.5 million on Clevinger over the last two seasons and has gotten absolutely nothing from him.

I think you are trying a bit too hard to make DFA’ing recently signed players not seem like such a bad thing.  Not surprising since it is such a frequent transaction for Getz’s recently acquired targets.

Justin Anderson and Clevinger have value?

Steven Wilson was DFA during the offseason on February 7th and no team had room for him and his modest $950K salary?

It just means that the White Sox are rostering many players that the rest of baseball has zero interest in.  Not sure how that is a good thing, but sure.

WestEddy can coat a piece of crap with as much whipped cream as he wants but I ain’t buying it or eating it.

More dumpster diving for Getz. Was it Bob Dylan who said "when u ain't got nothing u got nothing to lose"

Balta? SSHM?

I think I saw the latter somewhere online, maybe it was a SoxMachine thread with his various facts and figures a la Jay Cuda...who also seems a bit sick of the Sox recently.

You guys are waiting for him to refuse Charlotte his reassignment first?

Clev is gone? Oh I'm back now.

If Anderson and Wilson were outright released, they would be signed. I'm not sure what you're getting at, really. You try so hard.

I don't think SSHM is coming back. There's a lot more straight-forward baseball talk at SoxMachine.

The minimum salary is $760K.  Getz signed Anderson for $900K and Wilson for $950K.  The difference is pretty trivial, yet no other teams would claim either of them when they were DFA’ed.  You try so hard.

So we eat his salary another genius Getz move bringing him in

You wonder how much money is wasted by small market habitual losing teams signing guys like this with hopes to flip at the deadline.

Somehow that strategy just doesn't work.  Always hope that .01% actually works.

No, just this one

Clevinger was on a minor league deal. So there isn't much to eat here.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/04/white-sox-designate-mike-clevinger-for-assignment.html

Given his poor results and $1.5MM salary this year, it’s unlikely there will be much interest from other clubs around the league. As a player with at least five years of service time, Clevinger has the right to reject an outright assignment and elect free agency while keeping his salary in place. Unless he wants to report to Triple-A Charlotte and continue the relief experiment, he seems likely to be a free agent at some point in the next week.
