Jake
Let's be real...the Sox are so overmatched that having 3 of these games be so competitive feels like an accomplishment. The team was not built to be competitive period, and especially not with half the lineup on the IL.

nrockway
Are Benintendi and Thaiss more valuable trade assets than Robert? Imagine Benintendi continues to play like this for the rest of the season, he stays healthy and produces 4 WAR and only has two years left on his (still bad) contract. Some team might trade for him and the Sox might even retain some of the money. With Thaiss, guess who the 16-6 San Diego Padres have trotted out at the catcher position for 13 of those games? Martin Maldonado. I can't believe it either? For whatever reason,Β the catcher position is, like, really bad around the league this season. Both Thaiss and Lee probably look appealing. WBWSF
How much longer are they going to start Vargas. He looks like he couldn't hit me. I don't know who they would play at third but there should be a change sooner rather than later.
Jake
Vargas earns a long leash thanks to great minor league track record, surprisingly strong defense this year, and young age. Not sure how long the leash will be...that depends on just how badly he plays. But I see him getting another month even if it's pretty much an unmitigated disaster.

Since Getz doesn't want to be embarrassed and since it is hard for the organization historically to admit mistakes, I'd guess at least until the All-Star break even if he is only hitting .130 or so.Β

They DFAed Fletcher, DeLoach and Steven Wilson, so they didn't stubbornly try to pretend they were another week from turning it around. Players are going on the IL faster than they were under Hahn.Β Vargas was a top 40 prospect in the game. He was the centerpiece of a big trade. Don't you agree that it would be silly to cut bait on Vargas 22 games into the season? Especially in a "rebuild" season? And don't you also agree that it would have nothing to do with "being afraid to admit to a mistake" but more about giving the guy they sought out a thorough chance to realize the talent the industry pretty much resoundingly agreed he had?Β

Did it last year and is getting it this year. Which is why because he was the "centerpiece" Getz is going to give him time. But as I guessed he'll be DFA'd around the All-Star break if he is still hitting below .200.Β That's more than enough time in my opinion to convince everyone he isn't good and Getz got taken to the cleaners.Β Edited April 21 by Lip Man

I'm not sure if they'd do it sooner to get him more time in AAA, or at the TDL to sneak him through the flurry of roster moves. If Vargas got to the TDL, that would be a full season's worth of playing time on the Sox. More than enough time to work through a temporary slump, or catch fire for a week.Β

I mean it is obvious the point lately is to try to point out that other GM's have failures and to try to contextualize that in perspective with what Getz has "achieved" to this point.Β All it does for me is show that the gap between Chris Getz and these other teams shouldn't be somewhere around 30/40/50/60 games depending on who we are talking about because they make mistakes as well, which in theory, SHOULD allow the White Sox to close those gaps.Β Yet, here we are setting all time loss records, while the attempted smear of the LA Dodgers shows them 60 plus games ahead of the White Sox in each teams respective last full season, or 50 games in the case of the Baltimore Orioles, despite how stupid these GMs apparently are.Β The concluding question is how bad at his job does that make Chris Getz if he is 50-60 games behind these guys making obvious mistakes?
