If Vargas is a thing...and all the other young ones keep producing...this team is actually watchable and dare i say fun??

A road win in extras is huge for them. But the talent level still isn't great . But it is fun when the youngin's come through.

The trend of save-less wins continues on, 13 wins and still just 2 saves.

The 7 win Rockies have 5 saves. 21 teams have 10+ already.

What is the least number of saves in a season....are we in for another record?

Do you mean when? It was April 23.

Sorry, I meant what the swing change was. Maybe he shortened it up or dropped his hands.

Probably thr 2024 Sox who set that record, if I had to guess.

I would also guess that the record would have to be normalized for era.

I believe someone said raised his hands as he couldn't get to the high fastball.

Sox had 21 saves last season and are well behind that pace despite being on track for more wins. That's the fewest since at least 2000 (not counting 2020).

What are the rules on saves? I swear when I was growing up, it counted as a save if you came into the game in the last inning with the tying run in the hole. So a three run lead would obviously count, or something like bases loaded with a six run lead. Am I making that up?

It's if the tying run is on deck. So if you have a 4 run lead with 2 runners on and you come in and finish the game, it's a save.

So a three run lead going into the bottom of the ninth is not a save?

EDIT:  I just looked it up. I get it now. Either a three run lead OR the tying run on deck.

A 3 run lead is a save. The situation I brought up is for scenarios where it's more than 3 runs.

I have been as down on Vargas as anyone. If this change allows him to tap into some power and he plays good D, huge win for the org. Fuller earned his salary on one guy.
