Ishbia taking control by 2029?

Featured Replies

Surprising JR isn't playing up the potential of Austin/San Antonio...zero Nashville talk compared to Orlando recently, but reakistically the Rays/Sternberg should move or sell there first.

  • It's not the Suns guy, it's his BROTHER!! And if he wanted to buy a team for cheap to move, he'd have bought the Twins. He's willing to wait 9 more years because he wants CHICAGO.  Get a fuc

Lot easier to get an extension with the state of Illinois it would seem

I feel like the stadium is in good shape and if we wait 60 years it will be quaint.

Combination of payroll, attendance and lowered RSN fees.  Covid year, etc.

And they contributed, roughly, $175M to the ballpark.

Yeah...that all piled up from 15-18 years ago.

Not adding to the 2023 playoff team that actually won a postseason series killed the fan interest/faith.

This is great news. 4 years isn't long and they'll have access to funds it sounds like. I'm expecting this ball club to atleast be alot better by 2027.

Will they have a new GM before 2027?

A whole lot depends on Teel Quero Montgomery's and Big 3 in Birmingham.

It certainly won't be big FA spending.

Obviously I would have been more nervous if he sold the team to the Dave Stewart-led group.  With that said, the sooner they announce the future stadium location, the better.

Other than the South Loop what other location is there? Maybe Rosemont?

Wasn't the old Michael Reese site discussed? Or was that just the bears?

So now we know the timeline for this current rebuild.  2029 at the earliest, cuz we know Jerry isn’t spending s%*# for the next 4 years.

I know people don't believe it, but it seems obvious they have been decently in the red post covid.

Sure, but they also built up some savings at the start of the previous rebuild.  I’d assume they had built up some reserves during that time.

It’s less about how much they’ve lost with attendance and more about the television debacle

Tremendous very detailed story on today's events and the possible location of a new stadium (Michael Reese). Includes quotes from Ishbia spokesman and politicians. Also had history of JR's machinations:

https://chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/2025/06/05/white-sox-jerry-reinsdorf-justin-ishbia-ownership-transfer-new-stadium

“This is an investment in the future of the Chicago White Sox, and I am excited for the opportunity to deepen my commitment to the city and the team,” Ishbia said through a spokesperson. “I love Chicago, have always loved baseball, and am thrilled to marry two of my passions. I am also very pleased to have my brother Mat and father Jeff joining me in this investment, bringing their collective business and sports acumen to the partnership.”

Reinsdorf never said how much money Sox ownership was willing to contribute to The 78 proposal.

Ishbia has far deeper pockets that could potentially improve the team’s odds in Springfield.

Is the Reese spot feasible? I don’t really know what’s around there.

The long story I posted a few slots above talks about that possible site.

Where did the $200 million private contribution attributed to JR recently come from?

Good question could have just been an unsubstantiated rumor.

Those quotes about Chicago are great

That's the straw that broke the camels back but the years of giant payrolls with poor attendance and no playoff revenue is what really did the trick.  The timing of this certainly explains why Hahn is running on MLB network trying to blame anyone and everyone else.

Feel a LOT more confident listening to Ishbia.

Finally a vision of SOMETHING better.

2020-2022 were the only high payroll years...then one can argue about 2023 for a market the size of Chicago.

Why in his right mind would Justin Ishbia want to move the Sox to the Michael Reese site?   For all the complaints about 35th and Shields, are the Sox seriously going to move to a site that is further away from mass transit, further away from the main expressways, AND still has nothing to draw people before and after games?  Oh, and I can't imagine what the wind off the lake would feel like there right on the lakefront in the first 6 weeks of the season.

Am I missing something about why the Sox would be better off at Michael Reese than the current location other than some politicians desperate to get that site redeveloped?  It sounds like an insanely stupid option to me.

They'd be better off staying at the current park, building a new park on the site of Old Comiskey, or building a new park at The 78.
