Ishbia taking control by 2029?

Why in his right mind would Justin Ishbia want to move the Sox to the Michael Reese site?   For all the complaints about 35th and Shields, are the Sox seriously going to move to a site that is further away from mass transit, further away from the main expressways, AND still has nothing to draw people before and after games?  Oh, and I can't imagine what the wind off the lake would feel like there right on the lakefront in the first 6 weeks of the season.

Am I missing something about why the Sox would be better off at Michael Reese than the current location other than some politicians desperate to get that site redeveloped?  It sounds like an insanely stupid option to me.

They'd be better off staying at the current park, building a new park on the site of Old Comiskey, or building a new park at The 78.

I have no idea. All I said i thought someone mentioned it as a possibility. Is there more land where they could build the entertainment district they want? Even thr 78 isn't really about a new stadium. It's about building an entertainment district around it to make more money lome JR is doing near the united center. That's what all owners want. That's why the bears are moving, own the stadium and create more revenue through the area around it.

Yeah, it's mentioned in the Sun-Times article linked above.  So, you are correct that it's been mentioned.

I suppose they could build an entertainment district anywhere - The 78, around the existing park, or even at Michael Reese, but the first 2 sites at least are very well connected by L lines.   The 78 is close to downtown, the current park is of course next to a nice residential area and by 2 L stops.

Maybe someone can convince me otherwise, but I'm not sure how an entertainment district would thrive at the Michael Reese site.   How easy is it to get to that site by mass transit if you aren't taking the Metra Electric or South Shore line?  How is that site better than 35th and Shields?

Idk, I'm pretty bummed. In theory, given that Jerry will live to be the oldest person in human history, we're gonna end up stuck with him for 9 more years.

Sure, but we thrive on things like that - it's something that we can actually look forward to!

In fact, can we update the site banner to include a digital countdown to I-Day?

A big spending owner can turn around any professional sports franchise.

It will take more than money. These people care about that money and won't care about building a real tradition around the White Sox. I will believe when I see it. If it does happen, it will be a long time from now. I'm sick of the baseball establishment taking fans for dupes. Yeah, how about that rebuild?

The question is will they spend while Jerry is still around/making the calls?

If Ishbia is willing to pay for it, that is possible although given JR's long standing belief that MLB players aren't worth what they are being paid I don't consider it likely.

True but without a LOT of $$$$$ to start things off you are D.O.A.

I have no idea what this means.

I don't really see how that would work so I wouldn't be optimistic about this.

To me, this feels like last rebuild where they won’t spend to push them over the top, except the main core isn’t as exciting so far.

This is exactly it.  The last one was so top heavy,  but no depth.  This one is depth, but a lack of top.  Hopefully the pitching regression are temporary,  otherwise we are talking at least a decade.

Absolutely have to get two frontline starters from BIRM and your future closer or it's almost back to the drawing board.

Then you're having to wait on the 2026 Top 1-5 NCAA draft pick to make a dent somewhere near-term down the line.

Vargas and Meidroth feel like really quite good "complementary" players on a playoff team, but they're still far from stars (or the next Dustin Pedroia/Altuve).

Still don't know exactly what they have with Baldwin, Quero and Sosa (could go either way).

Sure, but they also built up some savings at the start of the previous rebuild.  I’d assume they had built up some reserves during that time.

Yeah, like the last time when Hahn said, “The money will be spent!”

Just not on any true superstars.  I’ll believe it when I see it.  There will be zero spending until 2019 at the minimum.  This agreement all but guarantees it.

Seriously, this is the flip side.  Why else would Jerry set up the deal this way?  Fucker thinks he’s living until 100+.  The 4 year minimum thing is just an insurance opt-out in case he dies early.  Fucking guy would never give an opt-out in a contract to a free agent player but he worked an agreement to give himself one at 89 years old!  🤣  He truly didn’t ever need Hahn to work his free agent signings for him.  He is the craftiest SOB of all time.

This old fucker has covered all of his bases for maximum value up until the Grim Reaper takes him out Final Destination style.
