Two often repeated statements/ arguments on this board that now seem silly:

What's the URL, flyingsock doesn't work anymore

I was banned there once for a week for saying a player played like a girl, and apparently that was mysogyny or something.  I directly pleaded to FarWest to please preserve the archives, since it was one of the few boards that had real time reactions to 9/11, and tons of other 2000s nostalgia.  That stuff grows more valuable as time passes, but I thought it was nuked.  Those early 2000s threads provide a glimpse into a forgotten world that you can't get thru conventional media. Home movies would be the closest, but even then, there aren't 50 people sharing their unfiltered thoughts like in a message board thread.

IIRC, richard roeper and len grobstein posted at WSI, as did Nancy's replacement.

That's true Rich and Les did post on it as did the Tribune sports editor Dan McGrath who incurred the wrath of many Sox posters at the site.

Part of the reason was strong disagreements between the individuals who "owned" the web site and people who had control of the message board.

At one time it was a very good site, was being quoted and written about in the Sun-Times, Tribune and even some out of town newspapers. They were using quotes from interviews posted on the site for example. Then the site stopped running interviews and historical stories.

Even the White Sox wanted to get involved. I got an e-mail from Brooks Boyer one time asking if I could give him the contact information to the people who ran the site. He said the Sox wanted to make White Sox Interactive merchandise available at the stadium. Nothing ever developed because I was told some individuals wouldn't agree to the Sox terms on the financial aspects of the deal. Don't know if that was true or not just what I heard.

Then as others have pointed out, the site because very authorative regarding message board comments, anything to "negative" was being shut down.

Well they had something in common with just about every big name free agent in baseball.

I want to say that Phil Rogers from the Trib posted there too for a time.

It's a shame that Grobstein died suddenly a few years ago.

They moved to a totally new server shortly after FarWest died since he was the one who was maintaining the old server and no one else could keep it going.  Unfortunately, I don't think any of the old stuff was archived.   The current site is wsiforumstoo.com, but it doesn't have any of the old posts from its glory days.

Yeah, it would have been great if the old posts were archived somehow, but I don't think they were.

The only thing I remember from whitesoxinteractive was the meme of the guy projectile vomiting that would be posted often.

I did buy a tshirt from their booth at Soxfest one year that said something like damn right I'm a Sox fan....my better half didn't care for the shirt so it's probably at the bottom of a drawer or box now.

I'm glad it's gone.

Why, there were some cool peeps there.  There was a FL retiree there, NellieFox or Little Nell, who was a great poster, very informative and all around good guy.  Frater Pertabo was good too, as was Fenway, the cameraman from Boston who was sadly banned despite being the most active poster there.  I felt bad for the guy, he made pretty good posts often, and I think hung out with us more than his fellow Carmines.

Granted, there were some insane trolls there like doublem23, and this one teenager who was a Tottenham fan.  They were terrible, but not enough to sully the board IMO.  My fav moment there was in The Parking Lot, where we got into a good WW2 discussion out of nowhere in an unrelated thread.  The good posters made it worthwhile.

and of course, among the goats there was Mark "the Encyclopedia" Liptak, who thankfully is here too.  Good to see ya here, I've also seen some of your Youtube vids.  Guys like him make message boards a fun place to be.

Yours truly is Little Nell and thanks for remembering me and the nice words, I still post there occasionally because there are people like Big Klu, 34 Rancher, Berwyn, thomas35, NoNeck and a few others that I still like interacting with. That guy doublem23 drove me crazy, extremely argumentative. Fenway was a fun guy but I never figured out why he was on WSI as he loved the Red Sox but he should have never been banned.
Voodoo is no longer an administrator but does a good job with his minor league report, I think dumpjerry is the only administrator now and he’s fine, can’t remember the last time someone was banned, some posts have been roadhoused.
Nellie Fox was from Minnesota but a native Chicagoan and a fellow Vietnam Vet and has had health issues, hasn’t posted for a couple of years.

I'll add MarySwiss to one of the great posters there in addition to those already mentioned.  She was always kind, friendly, and had interesting things to say.  Sadly, I saw that Fenway posted on a Facebook site a couple of years ago that she has passed away.

I have no idea why Fenway was permanently banned.  He was always courteous and insightful.  He was a huge BoSox fan and talked about them often, so maybe that's why the mods hated him so much and ultimately banned him.  Kind of par for the course for that site, unfortunately.

Doublem23 sure was opinionated.  I have no idea what happened to him.  He was perhaps the most prolific poster there and then suddenly one day......poof - his posts came to a sudden stop and no one ever mentioned him again.

Voodoo, Dumpjerry, and Nellie Fox are good guys and good mods. There were some other good mods, too.  They weren't the problem.  I'd say FarWest and Daver were a big part of the problem.  West never failed to remind everyone that he was smarter than everyone else and Daver never failed to remind everyone that he was tougher than everyone else.  And yes, I realize West was the one who keep the board running until his untimely death.  I thought Brian26 was a total d-bag and was part of the problem after he became a mod.  I cut back on my participation there after he became a mod and continued being a total condescending smartass to people.  What a jerk.

I got along with Brian26 except when it came to JR, Brian was definitely in JRs corner, I haven’t been in JRs corner since 1983.

Imagine defending JR.  I wonder if he ever realized his stupid he was for doing that.

I wonder what happens to the Sox win total once their starters get to their innings limits.

or when they do the trade frenzy thing getting rid of players that contributed to some of their wins and we will do the wait and see for the rebuild of the rebuild rebuild.

The only real solution is some successful drafting.  Otherwise it will be a rinse and repeat the other lousy organizations do.  Who will be the next pitcher for trade bait.

Then they will sign more veterans who wouldn't make most major league rosters in hopes of deadline trades (that make us so giddy) for no level prospects.

The Sox are not the only ones trapped in this madness.

As for the GM, he is not the sharpest tool in the shed.  The former player syndrome and nepotism seems to to have more lack of success.  That and acquiring players and exces from consistent losing organizations.

What happened to that site, I thought it was the #1 Sox board, but it seems to have disappeared.

There was once a sox board that always talked about "core of the core" meetups, and had a guy named Shoelundo, does anyone remember it

WSI was my main source for White Sox info back in the day, I was a read only guest and remember, LIp, George Bova, and Daver.  I believe George Bova started the site, Daver was a plumber by trade, and Lip was a sports reporter and play by play man.

The Admins we have here have to be respected for the time, effort, and policing they put into this site.

You left out that Daver was a "bad ass" catcher for Providence HS in 1972.

JR and EE certainly made bad PR moves almost right off the bat - the first being insulting and alienating Bill Veeck.  Bill Veeck certainly had his faults, but this got them off on the wrong foot with the Sox fan base and with Chicagoans in general not long after the ink dried on their team purchase.  Not long after that was the whole SportsVision debacle and letting Harry Caray get away to the Cubs.  And again, Harry certainly had his faults, but there was no denying that he was a fan favorite on the South Side and that he quickly became a Cubs legend after he left.  And then a whole string of PR disasters that we all know too well and don't need repeating.

At least they did quickly breathe new life into the team by bringing in Fisk, Luzinski, Bannister and almost winning the pennant in 1983 after being a laughingstock team in Veeck's final couple of years.  Then it was quickly downhill for the rest of the 80s bottoming out with the near-move to St. Pete in 1988.

George did start the site back in the late 90's.
