Last year they just never got those games where the other team was hitting into loud outs and lost because of it. Not sure if outplayed out to out but evenly matched and came out on top. I didn't think the Stros' lineup was that good and we had the pitching matchup in our favor. I'll be impressed if we can take the series, tonight was obviously a great start. It's always going to be reflected against 41 wins but I dunno for now I'm willing to say ok it's a decent enough start -- long, long way to go. Sox took 8 walks tonight and over the last 2 weeks they lead the AL in walks .The Getz vision in action.

That said I'm not going to just dimiss improvement because of some vendetta. 1

Considering they were last in the AL the last 2 years and are now middle of the pack is directly related to guys like Meidroth, Vargas, Teel ,Tauchman, Quero really improving the amount of walks they are getting. Getz has been targeting guys with good eyes and wanting better ABs. Even Zavala who's hot right now takes his walks.
CaliSoxFanViaSWside
Ever since the new Pope the Sox has had a decent amount of good news. Winston Salem Dash led off the game with B2B2B HRs by Antonacci ( draft pick playing very well recently back from injury) ,Jeral Perez ( came with Vargas in the Fedde/Kopech trade who leads the league in RBI and 2nd in HR with 12) and Braden Montgomery who many considered the top piece in the Crochet trade. JoeC
Last year was horrible with no hope on the horizon. This year is pretty awful, but in a more hopeful way.

Sox were 5-21 in April, throw that month out and they are almost respectable and there’s a good chance they will improve as the season progresses.
Kyyle23
Not everything is pointing up, but a lot of things are right now, and it is exciting to have young players come up and actually look like they can hang. One of these days, one of these position players will come up through the organization and won’t be traded for, but for now this is working. I need this Ishbia plan to speed up because I don’t want Jerry holding the football when Getz needs to get something that we all recognize is needed

bmags
I think we can avoid big time losing streaks but if any bullpen vet starts to show promise they’ll go out and august will be difficult. Offense still gives only a razor thin margin but the pitching has been interesting since mid-May.
Falstaff
Our Chuck and Ozzie talked about the defense being much cleaner, turning double plays, and offensively the newbie's taking walks. Loving it !!!
SCCWS
The good news, I guess, is that the Sox are getting closer to some of the other bottom teams like Florida and Athletics.

I've seen it as the Sox being in a group of 5 teams that are going to fight it out for the three best odds-slots in the 2026 draft. Balt, A's, Pitts, Mia and us. The Rockies are in their own group this year. The Sox are 16-21 since May 1. The A's are 10-28. This is a fundamentally different team from opening day.
Tomtom
Things are definitely looking better, but can we please Bring up Baldwin and get rid of Rojas.

In his 5-WAR year, he only had 30 walks all season. In this, his worst year, he already has 25. The new approach may help Robert in the long-run if he sticks with it....but for the Sox, the run is about 6 weeks. I'm certainly thrilled with the new direction overall. Baldwin needs to be up ASAP. The good news is that Getz is showing he is willing to cut bait on recent veteran additions. They will probably give Rojas a bit more runway, but that shouldn’t prevent us from calling up Baldwin.

Yeah you could just dump Capra and bring up Baldwin, and then move Rojas to the bench.

Rojas could start for a week in a pinch. Capra isn't really an option for starting beyond a getaway day game.
Princess Dye
I think they are sending Brooks a lesson here though about all his TOOTBLANs. he can sit and think about it for awhile and wins are not crucial for us at MLB level rn. so we can afford to do some greater-good lesson giving

Feels like a juggernaut compared to April and to all of last year.
