From the Athletic survey:

Which organizations have good reputations among players? Bad reputations?

Respondents allowed multiple answers

Bar chart of anonymous MLB player survey results of the questions "Which organizations have good reputations among players?", and "Which organizations have bad reputations among players?". On the White Sox

“It’s just a dumpster fire through and through.”

“They lost the most games in history last season. I mean, why would you want to join that team right now?”

A dome would fix weather issues that would keep some players from picking Chicago.

Like to play for the White Sox: 0

Not like to play for the White Sox: 31

I had to step back 10 paces from my phone to see everything

Cleary they didn't ask Josh Barfield his opinion and those 31 players weren't privy to Getz vision.

Seattle is really far from everyone and Detroit is Detroit.

I was shocked Cleveland had positives.

We're 29th, we're 29th!!!

To be expected. We've always been a troubled franchise

It’s based on JR and players not wanted to play for him as an owner. Cuts corners always.

That and seeing careers die here.

Imagine an AL batting champ not in big league baseball.

There is something toxic that players don't want to reveal.

Cubs #4 and White Sox #29. Entirely because of OWNERSHIP.

And the Cubs still aren't running a Top 10 payroll this year...dumped Bellinger basically just to save money (although it did turn out they had plenty of offense).

Oh it’s 100% the owner. We got the best uniforms, Sox logo is iconic, it’s FN Chicago. On the flip side, the owner refuses to pay market rates, they don’t make serious hires, far behind the times of today’s game. JR is killing this franchise.

Sorry...that's the way it posted after I copied and pasted it.

Where would the Mets have been prior to their current owner? Ishbia cannot take over soon enough.

I honestly think organizations get a reputation of "losers" and dysfunctional. That perception, which ins baseball's case is easy to confirm based on W-L records, gets around. Players that do come to the Sox know all about it and when they actually see what's happening that has got to impact them mentally, often to where if they go someplace else they just can't produce anymore.

10 teams got zero Not Play For votes.

9 teams got zero Play For votes.

2 teams got 30, or more, Not Play For votes.

0 teams got crossover voting.

0 players selected Will Venable to play for, and 0 also selected him as not play for.

Detroit still has to fight with that negative perception as a city...weird part is how that doesn't seem to impact CLE as much.

Mariners had that extended run without playoffs until recently and suppressed offensive numbers.
