Pretty much have to trade Tauchman if they can get ANYTHING decent for him in return...

The trade frenzy for a no level prospect.

Maybe they can duplicate the last trade deadline and get rid of 3 for 1 who has somewhat put it together.

I get it if he were blocking a player.

The only sure benefit is a battle between the Sox and Rockies for the worst being a lot more competitive.

I agree with this sentiment.  Trade a decent guy for someone who might be decent?  Why?

It's a mental illness shared by fans/media of habitual losing small market teams.

Facts.  They didn't quit, just not good enough.  And poor defense hurt again...

A lot less writing the team off after the 6th.

No reason for Capra or Palacios to play another game with the big league team. Wasted ABs taking away from Teel/Quero with Palacios. Baldwin should be up tomorrow.

Slater may have played the worst game I’ve ever seen.

Vargas is heating back up which is fun.

Astros played out of their mind defensively, insanely unlucky game for the Sox.

Having left-handed Kyle Teel pinch hit for Slater would have been an all-time insane managerial decision. Slater has had a decent season but had a bad game against some of the league's best pitchers. Best not to overthink it

Have to get younger in the outfield...somehow.

That said, Palacios is already 29 so it's not like he has much area for improvement as he's still hitting well under his career MLB ops numbers coming into this season with the Pirates.

That said, I'd be happy to rethink the roster spots devoted to Capra, Palacios, Elko, and Rojas. Of course we don't really have four dudes to plug into those holes so I'd probably start with Capra and Palacios.

Back to a boring/bad team with very little offense (outside of Vargas and Quero) tonight

They just need to find more power.  Meidroth and Quero are hitting solidly, but they aren’t providing any slugging.  Makes it important in the coming years to find some power.

This is fair.  (edit) Then again, Slater was clearly overmatched.  He's .125 in his last 7.  Would Teel have done worse?  No good options in this situation.

Baldwin is the obvious one, but then it gets tricky.

Gray and Julks have been two of the most consistent hitters this season in CHLT, but is there much appetite for either?

Maton, not really.

Vaughn...no way.

Colson's still 2-3 weeks of getting his OPS at least into the low 700-725 range before they can realistically think about promoting him.

So that leaves Sosa, Baldwin and two big question marks.  Would probably go with Gray, gun to your head decision.

Of course, that means more 40 man roster movement and waiving someone else in all likelihood.

Split the season series, made Valdez work for his 5IP, made a top end closer sweat, and even then it took some plus defensive plays for the Astros to win by 1 at home.

Can't expect much vs. DeGrom but hopefully Tauch and the youngins can stay reasonably hot until (hopefully) Baldwin and Sosa rejoin the squad for the homestand.

Another sucky 1-run loss.

Why is Meidroth  playing 2nd?  He is a plus SS defensively.

Slayton, Capra:   please DFA this absurdities.  We have guys in Charlotte who need another look anyway.

Seems like Getz and/or Venable really wants to have a bench player who has a strong glove at SS. There's not really an internal option there to take Capra's spot.

Isn't Slayton a cornerback?  Slater?

Well, because Capra's so-called "best/ideal" position is SS, and Meidroth can seemingly play both interchangeably.

Gray can do it for a game or two....but not on a regular basis.

He played some there this spring.   I mean, if they played that Boston corner guy at SS, Gray would do just as well.

I like some of the younger players we have out there, but there are some other real head scratchers.

Capra is horrible.  Glove might be good but can't be putting a guy with a career 357 OPS out there on a team that can't score as is.
