It sounds like they didn't go cheap for no reason and drafted a decent mix of high upside and maybe some guys they can plug in sooner rather than later. I dunno, give it three years and ask again. I give it a straight C.

I love the approach. Keep injecting the system with as many up the middle bats, who can control the zone, as possible.

Can’t complain about this draft. Looks like a normal baseball team draft.

The first 6 picks look solid; they are all ranked and have nice write-ups.  Very happy they picked Carlson.

But I can't tell the price:  how many of the subsequent 14 rounds were legit picks for their round.  How many completely punted or semi-punted.   Only one of the final 14 is ranked; each seems to have some skill and none look completely ridiculous, but 7 are college seniors. So I can't tell.

And as I've noted before, in my opinion, a team in the Sox position has no business throwing away picks.  They need as many lines in the water as they can get.  If and when their overslot guys prove worthy of the price, then I'll change my tune.    

(And yes, I know how the draft works and I know that to pay players overslot you have to punt some rounds. That's the point- don't draft players who demand overslot. So far, they haven't proven to be worth it.)

The LSU/Florida game I went to last year where I saw Cags hit a HR, I also saw Colby Shelton hit 2 HR, including one off of Kade Anderson. 

Funny, you go to one LSU/Florida game and you end up seeing several future MLB prospects, whether you realize it or not.

How did the 2024 draft work out? Bonemer for sure looks like a keeper.  Smith, McCants, a couple of relievers....

You need to ignore the rounds essentially and look at the draft by bonuses. The Rhode Island hitter in the 7th plus the 9th and 10th rounders are seniors. Those guys are priority senior signs with some value but once bonus pools come out, I’m guessing those are really their 18th,19th and 20th picks.

But their Comp pick, Larson, and their 3rd and 4th rounders McLain and Saucke, have been hurt all year. Add to that that they drafted a ton of college relievers who need development, it could have gone better.

I still like McClain but it has always felt like injuries in that first year just end up making guys disappear and never come back. The exception in a big way has been Tanner MacDougal. But he's high school.

Something I don’t fully understand is why all these high school SS go so early, and then you get someone like Ahoy going towards the end of the first.  Ahoy is expected to stay at SS I believe, and he put up crazy stats in the SEC.  Half of the high school SS will probably flame out and become Nick Allen-esque

I think Mason Moore and Nick Pinto are injured, too. Phil Fox is looking like a bullpen arm. 

The Carlson pick is a huge risk for a team that has had issues developing hitters but absolutely something that needs to be part of the new look Sox. Getting hitters with a low defensive ceiling and “near-MLB ready” bats just hasn’t worked.

The superstar ceiling is easy to see. Absolute stud on defense. Elite arm, great movement and fluidity. 
 

I’ll be curious to see what they do to his swing.

This guy has a good breakdown. The leg kick and bat wrap are going to be on the chopping block if he starts out struggling, but I don’t think I would touch it. Everything gets to the right place. His hands are so quick and smooth to the ball. Once he adds a little more to his legs and butt the power is going to be there. The adjustments he made to his swing already are night and day. He’s more efficient and the launch angle is there. Whether he can maintain that contact balance when guys are throwing high 90s with elite breaking stuff is TBD, but he has already shown his coachability and I think elite athleticism is a great indicator he’ll be okay. 

When I watch him vs Ethan Holliday I might like Carlson more. If he wasn’t 19 i think he could’ve went 1-1. For the Sox to be screwed by the new draft rules and still manage to get the guy that might be the best prep SS in the country is a huge break.

Nothing in the past dictates what happens going forward. This is true whether or not one chooses to believe it. 

Hard to tell where the organization goes between now and when the Ishbia's take over. It's not promising since JR likely won't be putting any money in the team and Getz, in that scenario ,may have to invest more in infrastructure than player payroll which seems to be what he doing now . Simultaneously he's trying to assemble more pitching talent that's available cheaply  through other avenues like the Rule 5 draft and minor trades. Actual upscale hitting talent will need to be developed more often than it has in the past but the acquisition of international under 18 yrs. old talent has to be seriously upgraded to really consistently compete. This has hurt the Sox as much as any failure the organization has made, among many. 
Established MLB hitting will not come to the Sox via Free Agency until JR is no longer in charge.

It's pretty rare for true college shortstops to end up going because those guys generally get chosen out of high school.
