Is this a fake ankle sprain to limit innings?

Glad to see Brooks back.

Perfect time for a Shane Smith IL stint. He's approaching his career high in innings pitched.

Yeah probably more of a phantom IL stint.

I am in Pittsburgh today precisely to sprain his ankle. You’re welcome.

I hate to say good to a pitcher on the IL, but also, good.

Yeah you need to manage his innings. Might as well give him a break before at least 1 (maybe 2-3) are dealt.

I hope when the Sox get good under Ishbia that they realize you have to pay the price for good pitching and you better have it in spades. Particularly starting pitching.

If you have six even seven reliable guys you can rotate them and have these "phantom" injuries (LOL) to give them a break during the season without seriously hurting your chances to win.

That's why they have drafted them high and traded for them. It all starts with pitching.

Sure, but not being able to count on any of Taylor Schultz H.Smith for the 2026 rotation...paired with what looks to be on paper the worst offense in the game, along with questionable speed/defense/fundamental...is simply a prescription for another 100+ loss season.

The pitching they do have will get stretched to the bring these last two and one half months...and numerous pitchers will need next season just to get their feet under them in rehab/recovery years.

And.....

They aren't going to really compete until after the lockout in 2027. The goal for next year is just like this year. Bring up the prospects to gain experience. Build from the ground up.

Too many assumptions.....

Sox get good under Ishbia..... who knows when?

really compete until..... what does compete mean?

These things aren't certain.

My lack of optimism is based on history.

Ishbia at worst takes over in 2033. Compete by my definition means you have a very good chance to at least, at least post a winning season. Do that and you generally give yourself a shot with the expanded playoffs.

From 1981-2006 for example the Sox had 16 winning seasons in 26 years.

I honestly don't think they'll be competing in 2027 because JR really won't do much to improve the team until a new CBA is figured out. So they'll be stuck where they are until after it ends.

You try not to get too excited about the numbers Baldwin keeps putting up at Charlotte with ease but he seems to be a sliver away from figuring it out at the big league level. Of course that can be elusive .

He keeps doing everything they ask like sac bunt as if they keep trying to tell him he's not a HR hitter and do the little things to help the team when asked. You're about to get your opportunity so just relax.

I hope we get to see Baldwin out there everyday, seems like they’re playing games with him. Make Beni the regular DH and put Baldwin in LF and let him swim or sink.

We might not have many outfielders after the all star break. I imagine Baldwin will be playing every day at that point.

assuming Smith's issues have just been fatigue related, do they just have him pitch through it, performance be damned?

No.

Maybe @ptatc has a different opinion, but if you’re forcing guys to pitch through fatigue, you’re asking for mechanical breakdowns and inefficiencies, and you start to ramp up your risk of injury due to poor mechanics and weakened support structures.
