Eric Fedde DFAed by Cardinals

Recommended Posts

This is EXACTLY why you sell high on Houser, Civale, Altavilla, Tauchman, and anyone else who gets a bite after a resurgance.  I have no idea if there are still teams interested in them all, but SELL SELL SELL MORTIMER!

It would seem stupid not to, no? Granted, even if he's good again for the Sox, no one is going to trade for him again, and it's not like you got a kings ransom the first time around...but would make sense for both the Sox and Fedde.

The will need to fill innings, but I suppose they could be thinking of the payroll and if they might be getting an arm or two back in these deals to replace the guys going out.

He'll probably clear waivers. Curious if the Cardinals outright or just release him. He's been pretty bad in his last 5 starts. Colorado just touched him up for 6 earned runs in 3 innings.

Is this truly a Getz win?…it was last year, but hard to say right now it will get the Sox closer to the post season.

It's very easy to say that obtaining Vargas, Perez and Albertus have moved the White Sox closer to playoff contention than keeping Fedde, Kopech and Pham. Because there's probably not a sentence that is more slam dunk true than that.

I think despite the disappointment in the return, both initially, and how they have since preformed, they did sell at his peak value.  We can definitely think the return was too low, but he did at least time the deal right.

Vargas, outside of a short bender, has been a large disappointment overall.

Perez started off insanely hot, and faded hard, sitting at a .726 OPS this season now.  April was a .912 OPS, since then .700, .612, and .642,

Albertus was acquired hurt, stayed hurt, and has play a bit over a weeks worth of games in the last full year.

I think it's pretty clear the Dodgers won the trade.

They’re paying for two semi-pricy vets who have combined produced less war this season than Vargas has. To be fair, Kopech doesn’t play, but we kind of knew that. But I can’t believe they gave 30-year-old, oft-injured Edman, the benentindi special, a $75mil contract. He’s in his “prime” and is a sub-.700 ops hitter. He’s a very expensive utilityman.

I’d rather have Vargas and Houser or Shane Smith or, like, 1000 other pitchers, before Kopech and Edman I think. The Dodgers make a ton of dumb decisions but bandaid it with an unlimited budget. How are they not far and away the best baseball team this season? If I were a fan of them, I’d be embarrassed. Especially about their pitching staff. Aren’t they about to try out Nastrini? Couldn’t they have just gotten Houser for nothing?

I think it sucks that Fedde was DFA’d but our fan base definitely overrated the guy.  We could still be watching the Vargas of last year and the logical perspective would probably be “garbage in, garbage out”; luckily Vargas is pretty good and is under contract for many more years. Makes a ton of sense for him to come back here, but we’re not paying his salary.

Until Vargas, Perez or Albertus are contributors to a World Series winning team, the Dodgers won the trade.

This is like saying the Sox lost the Carlos Lee trade cause Lee put up monster numbers for the next 4 seasons and Pods had one great year.

They've had a ton of injuries but guys are starting to return. Don't bet against them come October is all I'm saying. And in 10 days they'll go out and trade for issues they feel need to be taken care of.

He's looked better recently - .235/.357/.529/.887 over the last 14 days (10 games). Hopefully he's figured something out.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox grabbed him.  They're going to need innings eaters, and he pitched well with the Sox last year.  If Houser (likely) and Civale (not as likely) are traded, a lot more pressure falls to Smith, Burke, Cannon, and possibly Martin.  Smith will likely be innings-limited.

I think Vargas would actually learn a lot from Konerko, cause if he's gonna be a guy who does swing changes, why not learn from the dude who always tinkered?

The last was said, Paulie had zero interest in that kind of stuff.

That's a hot take. World Series are not the end all be all in trades. Look at how long some organizations went between winning a world series . That doesn't mean they lost every trade they were involved if the players involved wins a World Series. If you're bad and trade with contenders that's what happens. It's part of making the trade if you get 6 years of a few prospect for a year of an expiring contract.

Have the Mariners ,Rays, Padres , Brewers and Rockies all lost every trade that a player went to World Series winning  team ?  World Series wins are few and far between for a lot of teams and it's getting harder to close the gap between the haves and have not. Even the Dodger had a pretty large gap (32 years) between World Series wins and the Yankees haven't won since 2009.
