Claim him. You signed him to the contract he signed originally and you’re going to need innings after the deadline.  f*** it.

They won’t want to pay the remaining money on his deal.  I could see them signing him if he clears waivers and becomes a free agent though.

That's a hot take. World Series are not the end all be all in trades. Look at how long some organizations went between winning a world series . That doesn't mean they lost every trade they were involved if the players involved wins a World Series. If you're bad and trade with contenders thats what happens. Its part of making the trade if you get 6 years of a prospect for a year of an expiring contract. H has

Have the Mariners ,Rays, Padres , Brewers and Rockies all lost every trade that a player went to World Series winning ?  World Series wins are few and far between for a lot of teams and it's getting harder to close the gap between the haves and have not.

I think the White Sox and Dodgers got what they wanted. The Dodgers, in spades, and the Sox got the opportunity to develop a guy or two with talent. The Cardinals .... got what they paid for.

If he gets released, absolutely bring him back on a minor league deal for the prorates league min. He had so much success with the Sox. He might actually pick them over other options, if he has any.

Perhaps not, but in this case, Kopech and Edman were big contributors to the Dodgers World Championship, so the Dodgers certainly won.

But in trades, there can be multiple winners; and not in the "everyone gets a trophy" sense.   Good business deals are win-win.
Did the Sox win?  the
y did trade a very good reliever and a top 10 at the time WAR pitcher.  So I'd say not yet, but we'll see how Vargas and the others progress going forward. (if measured from Fedde's signing, obvious winners).

Even the Dodger had a pretty large gap (32 years) between World Series wins and the Yankees haven't won since 2009.

Ok, ya got me. If they become franchise cornerstones, sure.

But if the roles were reversed, we would be seeing Tommy Edman and Michael Kopech once a decade (at least) for the next fifty years for celebrations at the Cell.

So far we have about a league average starter who has washed out of his primary defensive position and prone to looooooong slumps.

Vargas was traded for Kopech imo. The Sox got Albertus for Fedde. TBD.

They are all just guys.  No franchise cornerstones for us unfortunately.

Cardinals should trade for Houser to replace Fedde

Seems like a no brainer to bring back to south side.

I always thought of it as Fedde for Vargas and then Kopech for the two young guys.

They’re paying for two semi-pricy vets who have combined produced less war this season than Vargas has. To be fair, Kopech doesn’t play, but we kind of knew that. But I can’t believe they gave 30-year-old, oft-injured Edman, the benentindi special, a $75mil contract. He’s in his “prime” and is a sub-.700 ops hitter. He’s a very expensive utilityman.

I’d rather have Vargas and Houser or Shane Smith or, like, 1000 other pitchers, before Kopech and Edman I think. The Dodgers make a ton of dumb decisions but bandaid it with an unlimited budget. How are they not far and away the best baseball team this season? If I were a fan of them, I’d be embarrassed. Especially about their pitching staff. Aren’t they about to try out Nastrini? Couldn’t they have just gotten Houser for nothing?

I think it sucks that Fedde was DFA’d but our fan base definitely overrated the guy.  We could still be watching the Vargas of last year and the logical perspective would probably be “garbage in, garbage out”; luckily Vargas is pretty good and is under contract for many more years. Makes a ton of sense for him to come back here, but we’re not paying his salary.

Vargas is pretty good?

Enough for a fourth or fifth place team, but also now well below league average for 3B/1B.

If you look at Vargas's splits, he is terrible at Sox Park.  I am not giving up on him, let's see how the rest of the year plays out.

Same as Fedde pitched well for the Sox and had another year on his deal.

I have no idea how to parcel out the trade and definitely choose to focus more on who we got (even if as a package) versus where they came from.

The Braves have 97 starters on the IL

Why would the Braves even bother picking up $ here? They're 16 games below .500. Strange.

Cards are paying $2.7M of the remaining. Braves aren’t paying much. His salary is $7.5M for the season, so less than half than that at this point.

Erick Fedde has accumulated 5.2 career bWAR over 8 years in MLB, and 4.6 of that was in 5 months with the White Sox.

They have to bring him back. They fixed him once, they can do it again. A good opportunity to nab, a cheap veteran arm who pitched well for you.

I wouldn't hate it. Then we can trade him again next year!

Bring him on a 1-year deal with a team option for next year.

The team needs inning eaters right now.
