July 27, 2025Jul 27 Athletic writer mentioned Tauchman as a possible trade target for the Astros. Given his extra year of control, I’m not moving him for anything less than a 40 FV prospect. The Astros have a pretty bad farm system, so that could be someone as high as back end of their top 10. A guy I would target from them would be Joseph Sullivan. He’s a 23 year old, LH hitting OF who just hit AA. Despite above average speed, he’s more of a corner OF type. That being said, he’s put up some big numbers in High A. He’s gone from a contact oriented approach to more of a three outcome one, which shows in his K, BB, and power numbers. Obviously far from a sure thing, but I think this would be a good gamble to take in a Tauchman trade.
July 27, 2025Jul 27 I think on some of our smaller trades, you take BPA. Best prospect available in a trade and don't drop a tier just to get position players. No knock on above proposal, just a general comment. Robert or especially if there is a Taylor deal is when I would push for position players. Astros system is weak. July 27, 2025Jul 27 Sullivan looks very interesting. I wouldn't be shocked if they keep Tauchman as a cheap and productive strongside of the RF platoon next year since it may not be until late 2026 or early 2027 before Braden gets here.

He's 34 and having a good year. Not cashing him in for something at the deadline is malpractice by Getz.
July 28, 2025Jul 28 Author SD is another possible landing spot. They desperately could use a LF who could help push Sheets to DH and would probably prefer a cheaper option. Tauchman makes a ton of sense there. They also could desperately use a catcher as right now their primary catcher is Martin Maldonado. I’m stealing this from Future Sox, but Korey Lee could make a ton of sense for them. He is performing well with the bat in AAA, but is completely blocked at the moment at the major league level. A Tauchman + Lee trade would help address two major needs for them and neither player would be a rental. Will need to give more thoughts on a potential return.

July 28, 2025Jul 28 I’m very much in the camp of trade anyone that isn’t a part of the team’s future. At the same, I understand needing at least one adult hitter in the lineup next year, and Tauchman seems like a good presence all around.

Are the White Sox not playing Teel and Quero at the same time because of a development philosophy like catching is difficult and they can learn by watching and keeping their bodies healthy? Do this team need 3 catchers if Teel is playing DH or 1B in the future? I forget how the rules work, but can a DH move to catcher? Is it better to have a more traditional backup if they do use both guys in the lineup most days?

Heard Jesse on the radio on Friday talking possible Sox moves, he said for this reason, he actually doesn't think Tauchman gets moved. The FO seems to really like what Tauchman has done inside the room with a lot of the young guys that have been called up. We have no way to know if that's true or not, but I don't have any reason to doubt it...so given that he has one more year on control and where this team is at, I'm probably not moving him unless a team out there wants to really overpay for a Mike Tauchman, which I doubt.

I need a legit 40 FV prospect to move him, which isn’t exactly a heavy price theoretically. But if teams only offer an actual lottery ticket (35 FV or worse), then I would hold. I get all the rationale for “selling” for whatever you can, but getting a scratch-off just isn’t worth it IMO. There is some value in having Tauchman around next year, especially when the upcoming OF free agent market is super light.

Assuming theyre still not in the spending phase yet, they will need a very cheap yet reliable RF for 2026 as a bridge to Braden and they are unlikely to find a better/more cost effective solution than Tauchman. If HOU offers something like Sullivan I would do it, but I'm not doing it for some 20-30 ranked scrub.
