Red Sox "more interested in" Civale than Houser

There it is.

There's no reason for the guys who are only here through the end of this year to still be here after today. That's not really a hot take.

Totally co-sign here.  If the Sox have most of these veterans on the roster tonight, Chris Getz absolutely failed in his job.

  • Sure, but the clock is ticking… Time to start making some moves before we run out of time.

I guess there could be very limited interest, but insane to hold on to Tauchman. You've struck gold with him having a career year, and banking on him at 35 years old next year to start is just wild.

But it’s true.  This is what losing teams do.  If the trade deadline has passed and Getz has only traded Slater, he’s right, it’s a failure.

You can’t tell me that Slater is the only player he could reasonably manage to trade.

The funny part is I was one of the few slow rolling the deadline saying I wouldn't be surprised if fewer players got dealt than expected just because of their nature as not being top choices, but if it ends up the Sox are largely in tact?  yeah, we got problems here.

Are you sure of the other offers? Maybe no one wanted Robert because of the injury history.

Maybe with all the innings needed the rest of the season because they are protecting the young arms, keeping the pitchers innings was more valuable than the returns?

There are viable reasons. I would have preferred to trade them as well but its not an unqualified failure. More of a preference depending on the return for some of them

Houser.  He has value and should be traded.  You can call up any random pitcher to pitch innings — see yesterday’s starter.

Amazing how much of an overlap there is between the "Getz signed Veterans to trade them at the deadline" and the "it's not a failure if you don't trade the veterans" groups are.

Getzpologists.

Stick your head in the sand and pretend it’s all good.

A complete Venn circle.

I don't know. Reports were that red Sox preferred Civale. Maybe the industry doesn't trust Houser can do anything. So maybe he's worth more to eat up innings from the young pitchers.

Ah yes. The name calling when people dont agree.

I don't think there's any need to overanalyze the headline claim here. I'm sure they like Houser more than Civale. I like a Ferrari better than a Corolla. But I know which one I'm more likely to buy. This just tells us that the Red Sox don't like the price the Sox are setting for Houser.

I think Civale and his offspeed stuff could really play up in short bullpen appearances

my hope at this point is that most of the guys the sox are peddling are fallback options for teams who don't get the guy they want, so we'll push right to the deadline before we see anything. i can also be that getz isn't very good at this (occam's razor, etc).

Im just picturing a scenario where they don't trade Robert and then he gets his option declined in the offseason.

Holdup may be some of the big SP names haven't been moved yet so market hasn't shifted to secondary options.

Aren’t you the same poster that basically puts the majority of posters all in the same bucket, if they dare be critical of any move the Sox make?  Oh yeah…  hypocritical much?

Cease being dangled, for one.

There are probably 10 bigger names that still could move before Houser

Would teams trade for him though when he already refused to go to the bullpen in Milwaukee?

Would be nice to see Cease traded and then the Padres use some of that capital to get Houser and Robert from us.

Then hes tanked his whole value before we even acquired him.

Don't think so. That's just a comment on the general reactions. Can't say its the same.

Good question, who knows

If we dont trade Houser or Civale, do we just cut bait with Noah?
