Michael Taylor retiring today

Featured Replies

Gets to retire at Nationals Stadium where he first made a name for himself.

good

Good that means Getz can't try to sign him for next year.

Congrats to him

Let him play all 9 positions for shits and giggles.

He had a very respectable season in the field, not too good with the bat but still cranked out 9 homers and drove in 34 runs, not all that bad for our 5th outfielder. Maybe he can get his 10th homer today which would give us 7 guys in double digit homers.
Good luck to him in his retirement.

Congrats to Taylor.

Dude's a consummate professional, and had a bunch of clutch hits. I'm sure he set a good example for the youngsters. I wish him well in his retirement.

It's cool that it happens where it started for him. Probably makes it more emotional.

Good for him

Taylor, now 34, was a sixth-round pick of the Nationals back in 2009. He was a shortstop at that time, considered to be raw but in possession of some elite tools. He was moved to the outfield and quickly showed the potential to be a strong defender. He also showed more pop with the bat as he climbed the ladder, hitting 23 homers in the minors in 2014.

It’s pretty cool that he can end it where it started.  Since it makes no big difference right now, I hope he gets the start.  He played on some pretty good Nats teams and got his ring with them, that’s pretty special

I saw on twitter he also needs 4 PA to get the last level of his incentive bonus, so nice of the Sox to start him today.

Batting 9th, let’s hope he gets there

Yeah, a three baserunner shut down would be a sad end.

I think I saw him retire mid-game during the Yankees series

Yep.  I missed the walk.

Congratulations to him on his retirement.  I caught one of his at bats on TV and it was nice to see that the Washington crowd gave him some cheers.

This makes me wonder - what do players like him typically do after retirement since he's only 34?  Not all of them can go into broadcasting or coaching.

He made $27.4 million, I'd consider that generational wealth. I'd imagine he would at least take a good amount of time off with his wife and 2 young kids

They seem to be hinting at him going into coaching should he want to.
